It was conducted by a group of scholars and translators writing teachers under the leadership of Dominican Father Thomas George Chifflot, director of the Dominican Bible School. Published in installments from 1946 to 1954, it is currently very widespread in France.

The translation was published in one volume in 1956 and revised in 1973 and 1998.
