Chess Adventure for Kids v2.6
Chess.comAbout this app
Chess Adventure for Kids is an engaging board game that solves the problem of making chess accessible and fun for children, benefiting kids and parents alike who are looking for an educational yet entertaining experience. Compared to other Game Board category apps, Chess Adventure for Kids stands out with its magical characters and quests, making it a unique learning tool. However, its effectiveness may fall short for advanced young players seeking more complex challenges. The app's moderate download numbers and good user rating suggest a well-received product, but its potential is somewhat limited by the simplicity of its free version.
Pros
- With over 100,000 downloads and a 4.0/5 user rating, Chess Adventure for Kids has demonstrated its appeal and quality, indicating a well-designed and enjoyable user experience.
- The app's developer, Chess.com, is a reputable entity in the chess community, lending credibility to the app's educational value and ensuring regular updates with new content and improvements.
- The absence of ads and minimalistic monetization model, despite offering in-app purchases, suggests a focus on user experience over aggressive revenue generation, making it more suitable for children.
- The app requires no permissions, which is a significant advantage in terms of privacy and security, as it does not collect any sensitive user data.
- The app's offline capability allows kids to play and learn anywhere, making it a great tool for both home and travel, enhancing its accessibility and usability.
Cons
- One concern is the limited free version, which might not offer enough content for older or more experienced young players, potentially leading to a need for in-app purchases to unlock more substantial challenges.
- The app's reliance on in-app purchases, with prices ranging from $7.99 to $39.99, could be seen as expensive for some families, especially if multiple children are using the app.
- There is a potential lack of feedback or progress tracking for parents, which could make it difficult for them to assess their child's improvement and understanding of chess strategies.
- The app's compatibility with Android 7.0 and above might exclude some older devices, limiting its accessibility to families with newer smartphones or tablets.
Best for: The ideal user for Chess Adventure for Kids is a child between the ages of 6 and 12, with little to no prior experience in chess, who is looking for an engaging and educational game to learn the basics of chess in a fun and interactive way, potentially under the guidance of a parent or educator seeking to introduce chess as a tool for cognitive development and strategic thinking.

Some of the reviews here are surprisingly critical. As far as I can tell this is a really well put together app. It introduces the basics of play through a series of puzzles which build knowledge nicely from the total beginner level. To me they feel like the puzzles which more advanced players use, but aimed at beginners, so the same process of learning to recognise patterns happens. The theme is perfectly suited to under 10s, but the actual play is a good way for adults to learn too.
This game has been a fun way for my son to work on chess. The characters are colorful and exciting! Four stars because the lessons are not always intuitive and require reading and a little oversight and explanation. I think the quest with Kingston has been a great introduction to some tactics! Looking forward to future expansions! My son loves dressing up his character!
Really enjoyed this game. However, Everytime I've played against a "boss", the game conveniently has a network connection issue when I'm about to win.
It's a nice game so far, but it appears that one of the puzzles thinks that the "correct answer" involves moving a pinned piece🤣 (Edited) When you find a very similar puzzle that includes the same mistake and you notice that Bumble and Goob's information are swapped 👁️👄👁️ (Edit) WAiT YoU CAn CaSTLe YoUR QUeeN WiTH A BIshOP!?!?!??!?!!?!???!??!!
Charged me in full even the website says special offer price. I reported account issue for more than 6 months, they only replied their developers busy on solving a lot of bugs, I need to wait. Now we upgraded a new android pad and can't log in my paid account which means we can't use the app in the new pad. Very disappointed. I contacted you by email since the problem happened first day, but got reply says I have to wait becuase developers are all busy. Check my email address for records.
