Kawasaki Aircraft initially manufactured motorcycles under the Meguro name, having acquired a declining motorcycle manufacturer, Meguro Manufacturing, with which it maintained a partnership. The business eventually became Kawasaki Motor Sales. Some of their early motorcycles featured a "Kawasaki Aircraft" emblem on the fuel tank.

During 1962, Kawasaki engineers developed a four-stroke engine for small cars. Some of the engineers then transferred to the Meguro factory to work on the Meguro K1 and SG, a 250cc single cylinder OHV engine. In 1963, Kawasaki and Meguro merged to form Kawasaki Motorcycle Co., Ltd. Kawasaki motorcycles from 1962 to 1967 used an emblem that can be described as a flag inside a wing.
