Nutrients Canada vVARY
Benoit BousquetAbout this app
Developer Description
The Canadian Nutrient File on Android.
The application includes the full contents of the database (2015) prepared by Health Canada and it is not affiliated with any government entity. The electronic version of the Canadian Nutrient File can be found at: www.healthcanada.gc.ca/cnf.
Health Canada description of the CNF:
"The Canadian Nutrient File (CNF) is a comprehensive, computerized bilingual database that reports up to 150 nutrients in over 5807 foods. The database can help you find values for nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, protein, energy, fat and many more, and is updated periodically."
Nutrients Canada displays the contents of the database in a convenient hierarchical fashion and provides a search feature (global or within groups). Clicking on a specific food item will bring up a details page enabling you to obtain actual nutrient contents for common servings or packaging. The actual nutritional information is displayed in a familiar format that mimics the Canadian nutritional value label regulations.

Nutrients Canada users say on Google Play
I purchased this app and thought it could replace the free online version. But, I noticed that the values for some foods were way off (e.g. 1 cup of 2% milk is reported as 50 kcal, but it's really 129 kcal). I emailed the developer last November about this problem, but to date the values are still wrong. Thus, I am not confident in using this app to check the nutrient content of other foods. I do NOT recommend this app until it has been updated and all food nutrients are accurate.
If I could rate this app with a big fat zero I would! It takes forever to search for a single food item for one. Second when I uploaded and paid for this mostly useless app I was unaware I would be charged a monthly fee. Surprise surprise there is no number to contact to stop the credit card charges!!!!!!
