About this app

Birdie Memory solves the problem of bird species identification through their songs, benefiting nature enthusiasts, birdwatchers, and students of ornithology. With its excellent user rating and top-tier app status, it stands out in the Game Educational category for its unique approach to learning. Compared to alternatives, Birdie Memory's focus on audio recognition sets it apart, though its limited geographical scope might be a drawback for users interested in birds from other regions. The app's simplicity and lack of permissions requested make it a trustworthy choice.

Pros

  • The app's excellent 5.0/5 user rating and over 50,000 downloads indicate a high level of user satisfaction and social proof, suggesting that the app is both enjoyable and effective.
  • Birdie Memory's developer, Merle Blanc, provides a professional website and contact email, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and user support.
  • The absence of ads and in-app purchases ensures an uninterrupted learning experience, aligning with the app's educational goals and enhancing user engagement.
  • The app requires no permissions, which is justified given its functionality and enhances user privacy and security.
  • The app's offline capability, implied by the lack of internet permissions, makes it accessible for use in areas with limited internet connectivity, which is beneficial for outdoor use.

Cons

  • The limited geographical scope of the app, focusing only on birds from Europe and North America, might not cater to the interests of users from or interested in other regions.
  • With only 5 total ratings, despite being a top-rated app, the sample size for user feedback is small, which might not fully represent the broader user experience.
  • The app's simplicity, while a pro in terms of ease of use, might also limit its depth and longevity for more experienced users or those seeking comprehensive ornithological knowledge.
  • There is no information on the frequency of updates or how the app plans to expand its bird species database, which could impact its long-term relevance and user retention.

Best for: The ideal user for Birdie Memory is likely an individual with a keen interest in nature, specifically birdwatching or ornithology, who values educational content and has a basic to intermediate level of technical skill, allowing them to navigate the app's simple yet effective interface with ease.

Developer Description

Learn to recognize birdsongs from Europe and North America!

The Birdie Memory app works in augmented reality with the Birdie Memory birds.
Where to find Birdie Memory Birds:
- In the US book "Listen to the Birds" published by Norton Young Readers Books (North American birds)
- In the French books "Ecoute les oiseaux" and "Ecoute les oiseaux des villes" published by Albin Michel Jeunesse (European birds)

The Birdie Memory app is designed to be used by anyone from the age of 5 up, and it is suitable for beginners as well as knowledgeable birders.

By simply holding the phone in front of a bird, it comes alive and sings its song! The application has 2 different modes:
• Observation mode lets you listen to all the birds, and the accompanying text provides simple and precise information about each bird
• Memory mode consists of a game where you can test your observation and memorization skills. It includes various levels of progressive difficulty, and also teaches the reader about the sonogram, a sound visualization tool used by specialists as an aid to memorization.
