The magazine “XXI” was born in 2008 from a particularly innovative project, that of a literary journalism magazine, richly illustrated, also integrating graphic stories and portfolios. This is how the neologism “mook” appeared for the first time in France, a contraction of “magazine” and “book”, of which “XXI” remains the reference.

Since 2023, “XXI” has belonged to the Indigo Publications group, an independent investigative press group. We were thus able to combine our expertise. That of major reporting as close as possible to the field, and that of investigation at the heart of the most powerful powers. That of distribution in bookstores and that of online publication.

From now on, XXI is available in two time frames: quarterly for the magazine, weekly for the site. These two reading moments complement each other depending on the time available to our readers, their mood, and their preferences.

Breaking with prejudices, thinking against ourselves, opening up to the complexity of the world, broadening our horizons: this is the journey that we offer our readers. Our goal: to bring meaning to the flow of chaotic information that overwhelms us and help decipher our 21st century.

On paper and online, XXI continues to aim to be pleasant to read, aesthetic, protean in its formats, demanding in its journalistic approach, to tackle subjects which anticipate the underlying trends which will make tomorrow's news. We continue to work on a long-term basis, to allow journalists to spend weeks – sometimes months – investigating in the field.

Our wish: that reading XXI represents a moment that is both enriching and pleasant. We hope to live up to this requirement.
