I bought this game for my sons, aged 7 and 9, primarily because my oldest son is struggling to learn to read. I was a little concerned because it says it's recommended for kids 8 and under, but skill wise he is behind so that hasn't been a problem. I only found out about the game because I was watching a video in Stanislas Dehaene mentioned it and said it was good. It is absolutely worth every cent. Both my boys find it fun and the graphics are great. They're really engaged and love customising their avatar and buying animals for their scrapbook. I love that both my boys can work at their own pace and level. My son who struggles has naturally fallen a little behind his younger brother, but this isn't a problem because he isn't rushed by the game to keep up. What's more, their levels are displayed anywhere but in the player info (which the kids don't check) so there's no competitiveness. My favourite thing is, if they're struggling at a level, the game doesn't just move them to the next phoneme, nor does it make them replay the same game over and over - which would be boring and disheartening for anyone. They move along the map just as the usually would and choose a new game, but the same phoneme set is used. I can't recommend this game highly enough. It can be tough to pick apps to help your kids but I feel like we've really hit gold with this one.
This is an amazing way for children to learn to spell and read without even knowing. My first grader loves it. I have seen great strides in his reading and spelling skills already just two weeks into using Grapho game.
