NerdWallet: Smart Money App v14.10.0
NerdWalletAbout this app
The NerdWallet: Smart Money App solves the problem of financial management by providing a comprehensive platform for tracking, saving, and investing, making it an ideal solution for individuals seeking to organize their financial lives. This app benefits most those who are looking for a user-friendly and feature-rich financial management tool, and it stands out from alternatives in the Finance category due to its high user rating and large download base. Compared to other finance apps, NerdWallet's lack of ads and in-app purchases is a significant advantage, enhancing the user experience. However, its limited functionality in certain areas, such as investment tracking, might make it less appealing to advanced users.
Pros
- With over 1,000,000 downloads and a 4.3/5 user rating, NerdWallet: Smart Money App has demonstrated its reliability and effectiveness in helping users manage their finances, indicating a high level of social proof and user satisfaction.
- The app's free model, devoid of ads and in-app purchases, ensures an uninterrupted and user-centric experience, which is a significant advantage over many other finance apps that often rely on aggressive monetization strategies.
- NerdWallet's developer has a strong reputation, as evidenced by the comprehensive website and dedicated support email, suggesting a commitment to user support and continuous improvement.
- The app's requirement of zero permissions is a notable pro, as it alleviates concerns about data privacy and security, making it an attractive option for users who value their personal data.
- Regular updates, as indicated by the version number, suggest that the developer is actively engaged in improving and expanding the app's features, which is crucial for maintaining user engagement and adapting to changing financial landscapes.
Cons
- One concern is the app's limited functionality in advanced investment tracking, which might not cater to the needs of more sophisticated investors who require detailed analytics and diverse investment options.
- Although the app has a high user rating, some users might find the interface or certain features less intuitive, which could lead to a learning curve and potentially deter less tech-savvy individuals.
- The lack of offline capability could be a drawback for users who frequently find themselves without internet access, as it would prevent them from accessing their financial data and making updates.
- There is a potential concern regarding the app's ability to keep up with the evolving financial market and user needs, as the absence of in-app purchases or subscriptions might limit the developer's revenue streams for significant updates or expansions.
Best for: The ideal user for NerdWallet: Smart Money App is an individual, likely between the ages of 25 and 50, who is seeking a straightforward, user-friendly platform to manage their finances, track investments, and set savings goals, and who values a clutter-free, ad-free experience, suggesting a moderate to high level of technical proficiency and a strong desire for financial organization and planning.

NerdWallet: Smart Money App users say on Google Play
I still find it really odd to maintain categorizes when the 50/30/20 tool is retired. however with the newest layout, with cash flow given it's own tab, the app is back to being useful for monitoring your regular spending as opposed to just your overall financial outlook.
Update: appears resolved. Gave another star for customer service. Appears this is a Plaid issue, not a NerdWallet issue. They use Plaid to link accounts. The app says my accounts are up to date, but deposits made a week earlier still not showing up. This has been a consistent issue that forces you to unlink and re-link your account(s).
Nerdwallet has great data tracking and useful articles. I'd been a longtime reader of the web version and picked up the app several years ago. It's all been helpful, but the past year or so of app updates have kind of diminished the former usefulness. Moreover, it's a pain to even get into the app now. What's the point of setting up fingerprint entry when the app just kicks me out to the website and makes me use a password AND a phone code? This alone has made me rely on the app way less.
The app itself is pretty, but ultimately it's all a facade. It doesn't do anything useful. It pushes promotions and deals at you that don't actually make good financial sense. They must get some sort of affiliate deal with banks and creditors. Linking your banks and card information doesn't help either because it doesn't understand the nuances behind accounts. And it just recognizes data you can find elsewhere easier. Ives used NerdWallet since 2022, it's now 9/8/25 and I just uninstalled.
Garbage. literally no different than any other credit karma clone. 100,000 advertisements for financial vehicles shoved in your face. they deleted their budgeting portion of the app. after mint was eaten by credit karma, I figured there were free competitors but it seems like there are none. All of them want your data and all of them want to sell you things and none of them have a basic budget app. almost tempted to go back to spreadsheets. shame on these companies.
