Data erasure (also called data clearing or data wiping) is a software-based method of overwriting the data that aims to completely destroy all electronic data residing on a hard disk drive or other digital media.
Overwrite mode are: random fill, zero fill or F fill

Permanent data erasure goes beyond basic file deletion commands, which only remove direct pointers to the data disk sectors and make the data recovery possible with common software tools.
Unlike degaussing and physical destruction, which render the storage media unusable, data erasure removes all information while leaving the disk operable, preserving IT assets and the environment.

Secure Eraser provides a way to reset the SSD to its factory default state if there is a problem with the performance.

Note: Wiping free space can take a substantial amount of time.

Low permissions and easy to use. Apparently it doesn't have to be connected to the internet to fill the free space with random stuff. I bet the average rating would be higher if the title at the top of the UI was clearer/less misleading, since some people don't examine apps before downloading & trying them.

It does the trick nicely. I have been using it for years now. I spent too much time wondering what it actually did, but once I read about the nuts and bolts, I was more confident about selecting the options that suit my needs. B4 running it, I delete everything I can possibly think of, run AVAST CLEANUP then let SECURE ERASER clean up after me.

Simple and apparently effective app. Appears to do what it claims quickly. No idea if memory is actually being randomized. UI is simple but fine. The blue theme is meh, but not entirely ugly. If data actually randomized 5*

Low star for one reason. The amount of datamining corporations thatvwant you data through ads on this app is INSANE, over 100. There is NO reason that should be offered on any app, those permissions should be 100% removed from the app, or find a diff. One to use. Theres already enough invasive spying, the app doesnt need more than a few admin permissions for its basic functions, not all that rest.

The app has changed. No longer works without Internet connection and now asks for approval to send details to a lot of businesses. I no longer trust it to do what it claims. used to like this app but now doesn't feel secure at all.
