About this app
Learn famous paintings and artists with adaptive spaced repetition
Learning famous paintings and the artists behind them helps build a deeper understanding of art history, cultural developments and visual styles. Recognizing well-known works across different eras makes museum visits more meaningful and strengthens general cultural knowledge. This app provides a structured learning system that focuses on long-term retention rather than short-term quiz memorization.
At the core is an adaptive spaced repetition system that adjusts review intervals according to your real memory performance. If you remember a painting after a longer interval than expected, the next interval increases. If you hesitate or answer incorrectly, the interval shortens without resetting your progress. This ensures that your study time targets exactly the artworks and artists that still need reinforcement.
Two complementary learning modes support different learning preferences. Multiple Choice enables quick rounds that build early recognition and confidence. Self-Assessment strengthens active recall: you view an image or name, attempt to retrieve the corresponding artist or painting yourself, then judge whether you knew it, almost knew it or did not know it. This method is highly effective for developing long-term memory.
The content is organized into clear art-historical groups. These may include Renaissance, Baroque, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Modern Art and other significant periods. Each card shows a painting together with the related artist and its title. You can freely enable or disable sets depending on your goals, and adjust question directions such as Painting → Artist or Artist → Painting at any time without losing progress.
Tests provide a transparent evaluation of your knowledge. Each test presents all selected items once and awards a silver or gold medal based on performance. Tests can be repeated as often as needed, offering clear insight into your progress.
A full card browser is included for exploring and reviewing all paintings independently of learning sessions.
