Knoxville News v8.5.4
GannettAbout this app
The Knoxville News app solves the problem of accessing local and national news, photography, and video content in one place, benefiting users in the Knoxville area or those interested in news from that region. Compared to alternatives in the News And Magazines category, Knoxville News stands out with its local focus but falls short with its below-average user rating, indicating significant issues that may deter some users. The app's ability to provide rich local content makes it a valuable resource for those seeking news specific to the Knoxville area. However, its overall quality and user experience may not compare favorably to more highly rated news apps.
Pros
- The Knoxville News app offers a unique blend of local and national news, which is a significant advantage for users looking for news specific to the Knoxville area, providing them with a one-stop source for all their news needs.
- Despite its below-average rating, the app has been downloaded over 50,000 times, indicating a level of social proof and popularity among users, which can be reassuring for new users.
- The developer, Gannett, is a well-known and reputable media company, which lends credibility to the app and suggests a commitment to quality content.
- The app's free download with optional in-app purchases provides users with flexibility in how they access premium content, allowing them to choose what they pay for.
- The absence of any permissions requests is a significant pro, as it indicates that the app does not collect unnecessary user data, enhancing user privacy and security.
Cons
- The below-average user rating of 3.0/5 is a significant concern, as it suggests that the app may have usability issues, bugs, or other problems that detract from the user experience.
- The presence of ads and in-app purchases may lead to a cluttered or intrusive user interface, potentially negatively impacting the overall user experience and making the app feel less premium.
- The limited download numbers and low total ratings compared to other news apps may indicate that the app lacks the breadth of features or the polish of more popular alternatives.
- The app requires Android 8.0 or higher, which may exclude some users with older devices, limiting its accessibility to a broader audience.
Best for: The ideal user for the Knoxville News app is likely someone who resides in or has ties to the Knoxville area, is interested in local and national news, and values having a comprehensive news source that covers both, with a medium to high level of technical skill to navigate the app's features and settings effectively.

Great.
This app has been much improved and is easier to navigate now. While I still miss the old newsprint version, this sure beats going out in the cold or rain to get the morning paper!
I am already a subscriber. Every time I use this app, the management insists I subscribe again. That must be the case because the app makes it easy to subscribe while hiding the login screen. How clever! How aggravating when I'm already paying $70 per month for reading content laden with ads.
App used to be good, simple, &gave good breaking news/local updates&info depending on how your notifications are set up. You used to be able to navigate directly to the stories to read them once they popped up in your notifications bar but now if you read more than a few stories a week/month you are blocked by the app unless you "Choose To Become A Subscriber", which is really NOT a choice behind a pay model. I keep it&nav to stories via the web bc the alternatives suck even worse👎🏾F-
More disappointing than the print issue. The News Sentinal used to be a great company to do business with. Not anymore! Not since they have sold out to Gannett and we now speak to a foreigner at customer service. I almost canceled instead of renewing because it took so long and had to repeat my address and credit card number so many times I thought I was being scammed. Especially when she refused to email me a confirmation that my bill was paid. Terrible way to run a business!!!!
