Use the volume buttons to control the ring and notification volume by default
There is now a fix to this problem and it is called Volfix.
When Volfix is enabled, the volume buttons of your device will control the ringtone and notification volume by default. It will control the media volume while you are listening to any kind of sounds and it will control the "in call" volume while there is an ongoing call.
Volfix requires to be enabled as an accessibility service in order to listen for volume button press events and to map the buttons to control the ring and notification volume instead of media volume.
Please note that at the moment Volfix only works while the screen is on.

Fixes the volume button! I had a new phone about a year ago. Suddenly I thought it was broken because the volume button only seemed to control media. Finally I learned this was an Android update. How idiotic is that? At least give us the option to change it back! So yeah anyway this app fixed it and I'm super happy about it. I hardly ever need to mess with media volume but notifications I change all the time. The version I have doesn't ask for permissions not sure if the newest version does?

This app is a godsend, love it. 4* because long-pressing doesn't do anything, I need to press the button several times. If this gets fixed I'll surely leave a donation.

This app worked great on my pixel 6 pro. But I recently got rid of that phone and picked up a S22 Ultra. Now the app doesn't control my ringtone and notification tone at the same time anymore. Please fix this issue.

Does not work - with this app installed and enabled with full permissions, when I adjust the volume rocker it still controls the media volume and not the ringer volume even after restarting the phone. This is on a Google Pixel with the latest android version 15.
