Given the bad reviews I want to share my experience. Downloading the digital edition of the paper in the app took 9 seconds, which seemed reasonable for a 60 page document (plus advert wrap and Today supp). I was downloading on a standard wifi connection so that may contribute to the speed. My phone is a Samsung S9 bought in 2019.

The app is ok. Journalism is pretty good. Best coverage of Perth and Western Australia. However I keep getting notifications about topics I'm not interested in (sport and crime) even though I have Sports notifications turned off. Have just turned off Breaking News notifications hoping that helps. There's no option to turn crime stories off even though the app clearly marks heaps of stories with that category. I don't think crimes are 'news' unless statistically significant per capita.

When one pays a subscription, one expects for it to be an ad-free experience. Not The West! The app is still chockers full of ads, full of links to Tarcoola from the web links and the like. I paid $38 per month for access including Saturday's and Sunday's papers. I won't be renewing but will instead go back to buying the paper in my local newsagent. If it wasn't for the ads I would give the ap a higher rating, as the digital version of the newspaper is indeed a great feature.

Worst App on my phone!!! So bad. Always has trouble loading, when it does it can't update to the most recent edition. Takes multiple attempts to download a single edition, even when it says downloaded and you attempt to read it, it starts downloading again.. That's if the app opens at all. It takes multiple phone restarts to get it to work. Absolute piece of junk. They should fire the developers and ask for a refund. The old app worked much, much, much better. I'd give half a star if I could.
