As a long time, severe tinnitus sufferer, I took part (quite skeptically) in an early trial of this app. I'm extremely pleased to say that it worked, and it worked waaay more than I ever hoped. There's no cure for tinnitus, but this app has allowed me to let go of the frustrations, I longer even notice it most of the time, and when I do, it no longer bothers AT ALL (even when I'm trying to sleep). Best app ever.
It would have been a 5 star rating. But the timer on the sounds doesn't work. I wake up the next morning with it still playing. But a great app otherwise. I'm definitely sleeping better.👍
$100 a year... Nope. Apps are milking me dry.
The lifetime subscription pressure sale shortly after starting the application raised a big red flag for me. I ignored it and evaluated the app in my own time. It had me put in my basic stats a few times which was a bit perplexing. Much cheaper to just write your own journal without this app.
This app needs further development, and there are many apps with more soundscapes, meditation and mindfulness exercises that this has. I'm afraid I had to uninstall this due to the irritating AI, which is poorly designed. I can ignore the rather condescending nonsense of being told by a BOT how it lost some hearing and developed tinnitus after going to loud concerts - which in itself felt like a passive aggressive dig at people who have tinnitus for those reasons (which I don't), but the AI 'consultation' on CBT is poorly designed. For example, after you put up with another nonsense scenario from the bot, about their friend being late home, and not contactable by phone, you are directed to think about something you struggle with, and to change your thinking about it. I gave it an example of something tough, that can't be thought away, or changed, and responded appropriately. The AI response basically ignored the fact that I said I did not feel better after considering how to change my thoughts, and basically said 'there - now isn't that better? See how easy it is to change your thoughts?' Now, this is a response I expect from people who don't want to engage with how difficult things are, not from what is claiming to be a guide through CBT processes. It should acknowledge that I didn't feel better, and then have algorithms to come up with ways to help understand the concept better, or find other ways to engage with that. It basically gives the message - oh, you should change how you think about it, and it will be all better .... done that? : great!!! Now you are on your way to managing better, and coping with your tinnitus. My disappointment is not because I do not understand CBT, or AI, because I am experienced with both. The app needs further development to be fit for general purpose, I'm afraid. Even in the example scenario it gives about it's friend being late, if you give appropriate answers, about not panicking, or about managing your stress if you are worried, it still acts as if you have failed to do so and lectures you on how to change your thoughts on that incident. Given that these are pre-programmed responses - you don't get to type in your own text - that's pretty poor.
