Fahr + Spar is the telematics component for drivers with ADAC car insurance.

The app records your trips and analyzes them based on several criteria such as acceleration, braking and cornering behavior, speed, day/time and road type. In this way, you ultimately decide for yourself how much you save. Because the more sensible your driving style is, the higher your bonus and therefore your premium refund will be. Fahr + Spar can be used by all drivers with ADAC car insurance from tariff 10/2019. The app is of course free.

In addition, you can use the Fahr + Spar app to gain experience and use helpful tips to continuously improve your driving style. In addition to a rating for each ride, you will receive an overall rating in the form of a medal at the end of the day. This will help you become safer behind the wheel and improve your driving behavior. Every time you open Fahr + Spar, you can see at a glance in the cockpit the current status of your extra bonus and your annual medal. You will also be shown how many rides you still need to achieve your monthly medal. Compare your experiences and progress and share them with your friends or on social networks. Your data is always in safe hands with us. We treat it in accordance with the regulations of the Federal Data Protection Act and do not pass it on to others, e.g. the police.

The App is steadily improving and now works pretty reliably. Every now and then trip recording still fails to engage but this is not a huge issue anymore and usually resolves itself within a day or so. Cornering and harsh braking ratings can still be overly punishing but the overall rating isn't affected to much and is still quite fair. Earning a gold rating for your driving is now quite achievable even without becoming a traffic hazard

A nice idea. However it is pointless that I have to use "on body detection" all the time. DriveDot connection already tells that I am driving with the insured vehicle. It is very annoying to have the "Trip detection engaged" notification while sitting at home or in the office and I do not want it to record a trip when I am in someone else's vehicle. Additionally, it is a pity that I am not free to choose what kind of notifications I receive.

This app is c**p, like saying that you had a hard braking followed by a huge aceleraron, when you are just gently cruising at the highway. But the worst problem is that it just doesn't work: I've lost HUNDREDS of trips (and the corresponding monthly medals) because it refuses to record the trips. I've learned (the hard way) that it you enter deep into Android and give this app every permission imaginable, and if you reboot your phone just before entering the car, then maybe it works. Maybe.

I am disappointed in the app. When I drive in the town or on country roads I tend to get a silver/gold medal - great. The moment I drive to work which consists of driving up a little mountain with lots of curvy roads and turns - I get ~70. The app gives me a low score (everyday) for "cornering" even though I am doing nothing that warrants such a rating. Also, the app does not record all drives. Is this app worth the discount? No.
