Universitätsmuseum Altdorf vVARY

The University Museum invites you to take a journey through the history of Altdorf with its TIME TRAVEL STATIONS. In various departments you will find access to academic achievements, organization or student life at the "Altdorfina". Above all, the turbulent stay of the most famous Altdorf student, Albrecht von Wallenstein, can be experienced here. Take part in the development of the city of Altdorf, which began as an early medieval settlement and finally made a career as the seat of the University of the Free Imperial City of Nuremberg.

The fossil department offers a glimpse into millions of years in our area and the research history of the university. With its significant collection and the information and exhibits on "Altdorfer / Bauders' marble", it is now a fixed excursion destination to geological institutes.

During a visit to the romantic “Doctor's Garden” in the museum courtyard, you can stroll past over 400 species of plants, including those that were once among the stocks of the “Hortus Medicus”, the university's medical-academic garden. At the same time, you will learn more about one of the most famous botanical gardens of the 17th century.

In front of the museum's doors is the old town with its numerous historical buildings and squares. Use the TIME TRAVEL STATIONS there together with the information boards installed to delve deeper into the exciting history of the respective sight. With NOW & ONE you can skip centuries and follow the changes in our cityscape.

You have 3 options to select your TIME TRAVEL STATIONS:
• Via a list with all stations
• By entering the numeric CODE that you will find on the information boards in the museum and in the old town. For the interactive visual comparisons of NOW & ONE, floor markings are placed in front of the corresponding locations for your orientation.
• The map navigation enables you to localize yourself in the historic old town and to go to other ZEITREISE STATIONS and NOW & EINST locations. Please activate the GPS function of your smartphone.

Make your way through Altdorf, which has so many stories to tell, and travel with us through the past. With the university museum app, virtual TIME TRAVEL is also possible remotely. It would be even better if you leave the virtual room and personally visit the Middle Franconian gem, Altdorf b. Nuremberg.
