About this app
Exciting insights and interesting facts about the Wallenstein Camp Adventure Trail.
The app for the adventure trail
The Wallenstein Camp Adventure Trail runs along the borders of a historical field camp: Here Albrecht von Wallenstein besieged fortified Nuremberg in 1632 with the soldiers of the Catholic League. His opponent, Gustav Adolf, King of Sweden, had withdrawn into the city with his troops. On September 3, 1632, the battle of the Alte Veste finally took place. The effects of the war were devastating for the population. Traces of the camp can still be found in the landscape today.
Along the Wallenstein Camp Adventure Trail, 28 interactive steles provide information about the events of that time and playfully convey knowledge: The Thirty Years' War and the dimensions of the siege become tangible by walking along the former fortifications, by listening to protagonists of the time or by discovering finds . For example, you can find out how much bread and meat an individual soldier is entitled to or what punishments desserts had to fear at Wallenstein's place of execution. Turntables, audio cranks and a puzzle provide variety on the way. The app accompanies and supplements the path, offers exciting insights and provides a lot of interesting information. A QR code can be used to call up and collect new digital content at each station.
The app makes it possible to immerse yourself in the camp using multimedia and to learn even more about coexistence and the effects of the war: a sutler, a musketeer and a pack boy talk about their lives in short audio pieces. Let yourself be carried away by short films into the camp life of 1632 and watch the goings-on at Sutler's Square or get to know the soldiers' equipment. History buffs who would like to delve deeper into the historical context will also find what they are looking for in the app. Hear and read excerpts from original sources and in-depth texts that are offered for all stations.
A map for the entire circular route shows all the station points where you can activate new content in the app by scanning the QR code.
The app is available in German and English.
