Laminitis Risk vVARY

Developer Description
Grazing Risk Monitoring Service
Local weather conditions are monitored and used to predict the rise and fall of non-structural carbohydrates (NSCs) in C3 grasses and starch in C4 grasses. When the predicted levels of NSCs or starch increase, this is shown as a rise in risk.
Under extreme weather conditions grass can become stressed and in these circumstances significantly increase the risk of a horse becoming footy or suffering a laminitic episode. When this type of weather pattern happens the risk gauge will rapidly increase to High and maintain this level until the NSC and grass stress levels are predicted to have lowered again.
Today, laminitis is a major problem for horses worldwide and is one of the most common causes of lameness. With the help of this app as an educational tool, it is hoped that fewer horses will suffer from this condition in the future.
With the standard version of the Laminitis app, the one-time purchase grants you access to the core features:
• Quick & easy access to realtime monitoring of the risk level where you are
• Choice of using your current location (GPS) or use the built-in search to locate the place you would like to monitor
• Access to in-app educational information
For additional weather data and advanced features a single subscription grants you access to:
• Access NSC forecast levels up to 24 hours in advance to support better grazing decisions
• In-App risk alert advisories
• Advanced weather analytics to estimate Fructan, Starch, Simple sugars and NSC levels
• Configurable temperature statistics (over 24hr period)
• Hourly UV levels and cloud cover
• Daylight hours: Sunrise, Midday, Sunset (local time zones)
• Wind, Humidity & Pressure readings
• Global search (includes all supported countries)
DISCLAIMER
This application is not intended as a replacement for correct animal husbandry or to replace veterinary advice, it's role is simply to act as an additional early warning tool to advise when grasses at the location you have selected are likely to be 'under stress' and therefore to have accumulated excess non-structural carbohydrates (NSC, i.e. sugars, starch or fructan) which could significantly increase the risk of a laminitic episode should it be grazed.
This app can give you a warning when the risk of grazing induced laminitis is rising or high. However, individual horses vary widely in their ability to tolerate fluctuations in NSC levels so what is safe for one horse may not be safe for another. In addition, grazing is only one risk factor for laminitis and you need also to be aware of the risks posed by other causes, including toxins, metabolic problems and sugar and starch levels in hard feed, which cannot be measured by this app.

What would make it even better is a prediction which would give >50% likelihood of a rise or fall over the next 6 hrs or something like that. I often wonder which way it's likely to move when I put horse out (or not) before work.
I wouldn't be without it now. It gives far more accurate readings than I can calculate and providing I follow it to the letter my horse can always be out for 12 hrs a day. There have been times when I haven't checked it that she has got a bout of laminitis so now before I do anything with her I always check it. It would be nice if it told you when the sugars were going to increase but maybe it can't predict to that degree, anyway if you check it throughout the day you can see what's happening.
Frustrating that the nearest reading is from location 40km away. My weather app locates my exact position via gps so why can't this?
What has happened to the search facility? I can no longer look for other places, the only one I can see is the current location it selected when I first installed it. You used to be able to search for different places by using the three dots on the right hand side, these have now disappeared ......please bring this facility back!
Intensely useless. This app cost money but the thought that went into it is minimal. There are no notifications available, ie. When the risk goes above a certain point, one has to simply constantly check. It is only available for your current location, my horses are 30 mins drive away. No forecast system, this is a computer algorithm that takes current temp, humidity, pressure, etc etc and calculates the risk. This information is all available, so why not use it? Colossally useless.
