Roadie: road trip planner & rv v1.7.3
Ori App StudioAbout this app
The Roadie app effectively solves the problem of planning and organizing road trips by providing a comprehensive route planner and itinerary manager, making it an ideal tool for travelers, especially RV owners and road trip enthusiasts. Compared to other travel and local apps, Roadie stands out with its user-friendly interface and robust feature set, despite having a relatively moderate download count. However, its lack of permissions requests is a notable advantage, indicating a potentially more private user experience. The app's high user rating and regular updates also contribute to its reliability and attractiveness.
Pros
- With over 100,000 downloads and a 4.4-star rating, Roadie has demonstrated its value to a sizable and satisfied user base, indicating a high level of social proof and trustworthiness.
- The app's absence of permissions requests is a significant advantage, as it suggests that users' data and device security are well-protected, aligning with the expectations of privacy-conscious travelers.
- Roadie's feature set, including route planning and points of interest saving, is well-suited for its target audience, providing a tailored experience that meets the specific needs of road trip planners.
- The developer's reputation, as evidenced by the app's quality and regular updates, suggests a commitment to maintaining and improving the user experience, which is crucial for an app intended for planning and navigation purposes.
- The in-app purchase model, with prices ranging from $1.49 to $39.99, offers users the flexibility to enhance their experience without being forced into a subscription, making it accessible to a broader range of users.
Cons
- One concern is the potential for the in-app purchase model to lead to a fragmented user experience, where some features are only accessible after payment, which might deter users who prefer a one-time purchase or ad-supported model.
- Despite its strengths, Roadie might not offer as extensive a database of points of interest as some of its competitors, potentially limiting its usefulness for users who rely heavily on discovering new locations during their trips.
- The lack of information on how user data is handled, despite the absence of permissions requests, leaves some uncertainty regarding the app's privacy practices and whether any anonymous data collection occurs for improvement purposes.
- For users with older devices or those operating on lower versions of Android than 5.0, the app is not compatible, limiting its accessibility to a broader audience and potentially excluding some travelers who might benefit from its features.
Best for: The ideal user for Roadie is likely an individual or family who frequently embarks on road trips, values organized planning, and seeks to discover new points of interest along their route, with a moderate level of technical skill to navigate the app's features and possibly purchase in-app enhancements to tailor their experience.
Developer Description
Plan a road trip route, map out your trip itinerary, save points of interest.
Plan your trip itinerary on an interactive map and pin as many locations on the map as you need. Search locations of attractions, trails, or national parks and save points of interest in a list. You can now add your personal notes to every stop.
See distances connecting the road trip waypoints and know the driving times between multiple stops. Easily plan your time on the road and your gas and fuel consumption.
Change the order of places to visit with an easy to use drag-and-drop. Use the app offline while you drive on the highway and never miss out on attractions and sights along your route. Start the navigation with one click in your preferred navigation app and get driving directions in Google Maps or Waze.
👩🏽🤝👩🏻 Share your trip (like Google My Maps)
Share your trip and collaborate with friends on finding the most interesting sights and the best places to stay the night.
🔎 Find interesting places along the route (like Roadtrippers)
Use search shortcuts to quickly find good restaurants, interesting sights or good value campsites. Type "pizza" or "beach" in the search to display these places on the map. Or just click on any place or POI in the map and add it to your list of stops or starred places.
💚 Mark your favorite places
Star places to visit and save them for later on the interactive map. You can add a note to be reminded of why you want to visit this place. Once you are on the highway or you map out your next road trip it is easy for you to see if one of your saved places is nearby and you can add it to your route.
💾 Export and import your route
Make backups and share your route with other Roadie users. Export and import your route data to and from GPX files.

Privacy
Given Roadie's lack of permissions requests, it appears to prioritize user privacy, minimizing potential risks associated with data collection and device access. However, users should still review the terms of service and privacy policy to understand any data collection practices, especially if opting for in-app purchases. Regularly checking for updates can also ensure that any security patches are applied, maintaining the app's integrity and protecting user information.
Tips
To get the most out of Roadie, users should start by thoroughly exploring the app's features, including its route planning and points of interest management tools. Utilizing the app's offline capabilities can also enhance the user experience during trips with limited internet access. Additionally, regularly updating the app can ensure access to the latest features and improvements, further enhancing the road trip planning experience.

such a helpful little tool if you are traveling! I don't usually spring for purchasing things like premium status in apps but I thought it was so helpful for my first 2 free trips that I wanted to keep using it for more! I even use it for day trips if I have a lot of errands to run so I can plan them out efficiently and stay on track!
It was super convenient to use. It had the times and distances for all the stops/trips, everything I found on google was in the app and easily added, and I could start a google maps trip from the app which saved time and hassle. I think what would make it 5 stars is if there's a way to see a description of the locations suggested in the app like in google maps, such as prices, open hours, reviews, etc, so planning the trip is much smoother and if we could incorporate gas milage for budgeting
Nice looking app but missing some basic features. Doesn't seem to recognize construction, trying to send me over a closed bridge instead of routing around. Also voice integration, having to manually type each stop in the clunky interface is a hassle. Might come back to check the app in the future, but without road closure information this app is not useful at all.
I realize that all road planning apps have features and benefits that are useful. For me, the only feature that would make me use an app other than Google maps is one that allows me to enter vehicle height. Or at a minimum, warns at low height bridges. This does not have that, so not quite sure what the option of selecting that i drive an RV vs a car does. I test it with the Canopener bridge in Durham NC and the route takes me straight through it.
