Arsenal were the first club in the south of England to join the English Football League, in 1893, reaching the Football League First Division in 1904. They have had only one relegation in their history, in 1913, having been in the elite consecutively for a hundred years, since the 1919-20 season, that is, it is the team among the so-called big six English clubs with the fewest relegations. The Gunners had one of their most successful periods in the 1930s and in the period immediately after World War II, in which they won seven
championships and three national cups.
