Since the first edition of the book "Therapeutic Strategies in Emergency Medicine" was published in 1998, we have been expanding, reviewing and updating the therapeutic indications of the different nosological entities that the emergency physician faces in his daily work, until the 4th edition recently published on paper (2012).

Throughout these years, the therapeutic guidelines reflected in the book have sought to help both physicians in training and emergency physicians and other specialists who have to face the rapid decisions that a medical emergency implies. However, despite the fact that emergency services have become a universal access door to the health system, forcing emergency physicians to expand their knowledge more and more, this book has never had the ambition of a medical treatise internal. Its index is basically limited to those pathologies whose severity or difficulty of immediate treatment requires prompt and written support of the guidelines to be followed in each case.

In each chapter, an exhaustive evidence-based review of the therapeutic regimens for the different diseases included in the index has been carried out. No detail has been sought in the pathophysiology or pathogenesis of diseases, since it is in other books or treatises where these answers must be sought. Instead, emphasis has been sought on the methodical treatment of each medical emergency, transferring it as always to a language that allows the mental representation of the steps to be followed to achieve therapeutic success. In the field of medical emergencies, where the time available to make decisions is scarce, targeted support is necessary for the professional to administer the appropriate treatment, in the shortest possible time. This has been the philosophy of the work.

I want to thank the entire team of medical collaborators who have participated in the development of this book, and now also the mobile application, for their commendable effort. We all fervently hope that future users will find on your pages the quick, effective and necessary help to clarify the therapeutic guidelines and thus contribute to the success of the treatment. If we achieve this goal, we will feel that our effort has paid off.
