About this app

Pythagorea is a puzzle game that effectively solves the problem of providing an engaging and educational experience for users interested in geometry, particularly on a square grid. Students and individuals looking to improve their spatial reasoning and geometric skills benefit most from this app. Compared to alternatives in the Game Puzzle category, Pythagorea stands out with its unique focus on geometry and well-received user rating of 4.3 out of 5. However, it falls short in terms of variety, as the game's concept, although intriguing, might become repetitive for some players.

Pros

  • With over 1 million downloads and a high user rating, Pythagorea demonstrates strong social proof and a reputation for quality, indicating that it is a well-liked and reliable choice for puzzle enthusiasts.
  • The absence of ads in the game ensures a distraction-free experience, allowing users to focus on solving puzzles without interruptions, which is a significant advantage over other free puzzle games.
  • Pythagorea's developer, HORIS INTERNATIONAL LIMITED, has a reputation for creating educational and engaging games, as seen with their other project, Euclidea, which suggests a commitment to quality and user satisfaction.
  • The game's offline capability and lack of required permissions make it an excellent choice for users concerned about data privacy and those who want to play without an internet connection.
  • The in-app purchases are reasonably priced, ranging from $0.99 to $9.99, providing users with the option to expand their gameplay experience without feeling coerced into spending money.

Cons

  • One concern is the potential for the game to become repetitive, as the core concept of solving geometric puzzles on a square grid might not offer enough variety for some players, leading to a decrease in engagement over time.
  • Although the in-app purchases are not overly aggressive, the fact that the game is free with in-app purchases might lead some users to feel that certain features or levels are locked behind a paywall, potentially limiting the full experience without spending money.
  • The lack of information about what data, if any, is collected by the developer could be a concern for privacy-conscious users, even though the app does not request any permissions.
  • Some users might find the game's difficulty level increases too slowly or too quickly, depending on their individual skill level and experience with geometric puzzles, which could affect their overall enjoyment of the game.

Best for: The ideal user for Pythagorea is a middle school to early college student, or anyone with a basic understanding of geometry and an interest in puzzle games, who is looking for an educational yet entertaining experience to improve their spatial reasoning and geometric skills in a challenging but rewarding environment.

*** About ***
Pythagorea is a collection of geometric puzzles of different kind that can be solved without complex constructions or calculations. All objects are drawn on a grid whose cells are squares. A lot of levels can be solved using just your geometric intuition or by finding natural laws, regularity, and symmetry.

*** Just play ***
There are no sophisticated instruments. You can construct straight lines and segments only and set points in line intersections. It looks very easy but it is enough to provide an infinite number of interesting problems and unexpected challenges.

*** All definitions at your fingertips ***
If you forgot a definition, you can instantly find it in the app’s glossary. To find the definition of any term that is used in conditions of a problem, just tap on the Info (“i”) button.

*** Is this game for you? ***
Euclidea users can take a different view of constructions, discover new methods and tricks, and check their geometric intuition.

If you have just started your acquaintance with geometry, the game will help you understand important ideas and properties of the Euclidean geometry.

If you passed the course of geometry some time ago, the game will be useful to renew and check your knowledge because it covers most of ideas and notions of the elementary geometry.

If you are not on good terms with geometry, Pythagorea will help you to discover another side of the subject. We get a lot of user responses that Pythagorea and Euclidea made it possible to see the beauty and naturalness of geometric constructions and even fall in love with geometry.

And do not miss your chance to familiarize children with mathematics. Pythagorea is an excellent way to make friends with geometry and benefit from spending time together.

*** Main topics ***
> Length, distance, and area
> Parallels and perpendiculars
> Angles and triangles
> Angle and perpendicular bisectors, medians, and altitudes
> Pythagorean Theorem
> Circles and tangents
> Parallelograms, squares, rhombuses, rectangles and trapezoids
> Symmetry, reflection, and rotation

***Why Pythagorea***
Pythagoras of Samos was a Greek philosopher and mathematician. He lived in 6th century BC. One of the most famous geometric facts bears his name: the Pythagorean Theorem. It states that in a right-angled triangle the area of the square on the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares of the other two sides. While playing Pythagorea you often meet right angles and rely on the Pythagorean Theorem to compare lengths of segments and distances between points. That is why the game is named after Pythagoras.

Privacy

Given that Pythagorea does not request any permissions, it appears to be a very privacy-friendly app, with minimal to no data collection risk. However, users should still be cautious when making in-app purchases and ensure they are buying from trustworthy sources. It's also a good practice to review the developer's privacy policy, available on their website, for any updates or changes regarding data collection and usage.

Tips

To get the most out of Pythagorea, users should start by completing the initial tutorials to understand the game's mechanics and how to solve puzzles efficiently. Regularly checking for updates can also provide access to new levels and features, enhancing the gameplay experience. Additionally, playing the game in short sessions can help maintain focus and prevent the puzzles from becoming too repetitive or frustrating.

I was going to take off one star because it has incomplete solutions (or misses alternate solutions); but given that there are no ads and it is a free to play game, it earned that one back. I am currently a third of the way through the game, and it is a fun logic/geometry puzzle game which requires no complex math (however remembering specific rules is very helpful). A suggestion would be to be able to remove temporary lines and nodes that you set (perhaps by tapping on them) to remove clutter

I enjoy the game and the puzzles are challenging. The one thing that I would think needs changed is adding some sort of explanation. There's certain puzzles whose, solutions, don't make sense. Having a link to an explanation would make it much more enjoyable, as well as helping with other puzzles.

It's very well implemented. However, if you get stuck, the help simply gives definitions of construction. There are no hints about which step I am doing wrong or what I need to look up to solve that particular puzzle. I'd rather have a hint than have to find a geometry forum and get someone to give me the answer. Where's the fun in that?

Sometimes it is impossible to create a parallel without constructing a point by creating a line first so that the pointcus on the intersection. Then the system does bot allow you to delete the first line for assistance

It doesn't try to teach you anything, you have to have the knowledge on how to find/construct certain points or just blindly guess. This app should teach you geometry and methods of finding points instead. You can just completely skip levels too without any hints or seeing the solution after.
