Skritter: Write Chinese v3.13.9
SkritterAbout this app
Developer Description
Learn to read, write, and speak Mandarin with the ultimate vocabulary study app.
Skritter has existed for more than 10 years, and for a good reason: our learners are amazing! They help us with feedback, which allows us to create what we think is the best way to learn to write Chinese out there!
If you have tried to write Chinese before, you probably noticed that it requires us to learn characters rather than the roman alphabet we know from English. You can learn it through our “decks” (similar to a card deck) based on topics and difficulty.
Deck examples:
- Ordering or making coffee or tea (so you can get your morning caffeine fix)
- Chinese Stroke Order (master the rules quickly and efficiently)
- HSK 1-6
- More advanced topics like Yoga and talking about your Emotions
- And many more…
First, you learn a character’s meaning, reading, and tone; then practice writing it. Before you know it, you’ll want to learn thousands of characters. Try our app and see for yourself why thousands of people use it every day.
Have questions, problems, or feedback? We would love to hear from you. Reach out to us at team@skritter.com

Exceptional UX gets me looking forward to playing the game of learning. Phenomenal custom content of three inner workings of characters names it a breeze to learn new characters after the foundations. Clever system to separately test tone, writing and Pinyin so you can know where you are weak. Great mnemonics and explanations of all beginner characters. Only improvement I can think of is having some form of sentence mode. Or a fully Chinese mode so you do not need to think in source language.
I absolutely love this app and consider it a staple for learning Chinese. There are two things I'd really like to see implemented though : colored tones (1 = red; 2 = yellow; etc.) as in Pleco, and a timer when reviewing. Users could decide to have one minute to remember a character and consider it "forgotten" if not remembered in time. Edit : would also be good to have the option to review only the favourites.
Why doesn't the sound work for the pinyin????
I use this daily and would be thrilled if it simply did what it's supposed to, but it's a frustrating, buggy mess. They've gotten somewhat more responsive to bug reports, but it's still riddled with database corruption errors, tests/reviews that don't include all of the cards they're supposed to (kind of a big deal!), incorrect dictionary entries, etc. Also inexplicably slow; I think the developers are just in over their heads. Not really worth $100/yr, and I wish I'd invested my time in Anki.
I have no idea whether it's worth subscribing or not, because you get no insight how it's supposed to work without subscribing first. Uninstalled.
