Hirakana - Kana and Kanji v2.8.9
[Mustache Game Studio]About this app
Hirakana - Kana and Kanji is an educational game that effectively addresses the need for interactive Japanese character learning, particularly for beginners and intermediate learners. By offering a timed challenge, it benefits those seeking to improve their reading and writing skills in Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. Compared to other apps in the Game Educational category, Hirakana stands out with its simplicity and focus, although it may fall short in terms of comprehensive lessons and detailed explanations. Its high rating and moderate download numbers suggest a well-regarded tool among language learners.
Pros
- With over 500,000 downloads and an excellent user rating of 4.6/5, Hirakana demonstrates strong social proof and a high level of user satisfaction, indicating its effectiveness as a learning tool.
- The app's developer, Mustache Game Studio, maintains a professional website and provides a contact email, suggesting a commitment to user support and feedback incorporation.
- Hirakana's lack of required permissions is a significant advantage, ensuring that users can learn without concerns about data privacy or unnecessary access to device features.
- The inclusion of both free content and optional in-app purchases offers flexibility for users, allowing them to choose their level of engagement and investment in the app.
- Regular updates, as indicated by the version number 2.8.9, suggest that the developer is actively maintaining and improving the app, which is crucial for educational content that needs to stay relevant and engaging.
Cons
- The presence of ads may detract from the user experience, especially in an educational context where focus is key, and the option to remove ads via in-app purchase might not be feasible for all users.
- While the app excels at providing interactive challenges, it may not offer enough comprehensive lessons or detailed explanations for users who are completely new to Japanese characters, potentially limiting its use as a standalone learning tool.
- The relatively narrow focus on timed challenges might lead to repetition and boredom for some users, suggesting a need for additional game modes or content variety to keep the learning experience fresh and engaging.
- There is a potential concern regarding the limited size and scope of in-app purchases, with prices ranging from $1.49 to $3.49, which might not provide significant additional value for some users, especially considering the app's basic functionality is free.
Best for: The ideal user for Hirakana - Kana and Kanji is likely a motivated individual, possibly a student or an enthusiast of the Japanese language, looking for a supplementary tool to practice and improve their Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji reading and writing skills, with a preference for interactive and challenging learning experiences that can be fit into busy schedules.

Great app to practice hiragana and katakana while learning Japanese characters. Unlike the bird app, this is more of forced repetition based learning which has its place. I like the variation between levels too, and the thresholds for completion.
if you're trying to learn Japanese this one isn't that bad, it teaches you the basic sounds and the basic symbols BUT it doesn't teach you how to write them. but if you're just trying to read then I think this app should be good enough. 👍🏾 ok bye.
It's good to practice what you've learned, but the LEARNING part is just it popping up a letter and you guessing by clicking an answer? Hm. Also, they use "dji" instead of "ji" which I have never seen in my life. I had to Google it to find out what the frak! Terrible choice. No one uses DJI. Should be fixed, probs won't be.
Will not load offline. Just gets stuck on loading screen.
satisfied 🙂🙂🥺🎈
