The Japan Times PublishingAbout this app
Developer Description
A must-have app for mastering Japanese verb/adjective conjugations.
Firmly master the conjugation of Japanese verbs and adjectives!
This app helps you to master the conjugation of elementary verbs and adjectives through practice at your own pace.
It marks the third official app for "GENKI: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese," a best-selling series of Japanese learning materials boasting more than 2.5 million copies sold.
Advantages
•You can view the cards and listen to the recordings as you like, enabling you to study at your own pace.
•The different conjugations are mastered through two types of practice: saying the conjugated forms aloud or typing them.
•All conjugation forms studied at the elementary level are covered: 18 for verbs and 10 for adjectives.
•As you go through each conjugation card deck, the cards answered correctly are automatically removed, allowing you to efficiently focus on the trickier words in the next round of practice.
Study methods
MyDeck: Practice each word by looking at the cards and repeatedly saying the conjugated forms aloud.
(1) Each card has a word and the conjugation type to be practiced. Say the word in the conjugated form indicated.
(2) Tap the sound icon to check whether you said the conjugated form correctly.
(3) Tap the * icon to check the conjugated form in writing.
(4) Study the use of the conjugated form by referring to the example sentence and illustration on the back side of the card.
(5) Tap the Rule icon to see the conjugation rule.
Check: Test your retention of each conjugated form by typing in your answers.*
(1) Type in the conjugated form as instructed.
(2) If you entered the correct form, the card will be removed from MyDeck. Cards answered incorrectly or skipped will remain in the deck for further practice.
*To study with the Check method, you will need to add a Japanese keyboard to your device before starting. (We recommend using Google Japanese Input.)
Handy features
•List
All conjugation forms of each word are listed in this feature, with the words arranged in a-i-u-e-o order. A check mark is displayed next to each conjugation form that has been mastered and the MyDeck card for each entry can be opened, allowing you to review the conjugations via the list.
•Rule
This feature lists the rules for all 28 conjugation types covered by the app, enabling you to quickly look up the way to form conjugations such as the passive, the causative, the causative-passive, and the tricky te-form.
•MyDeck Shuffle Mode
Activating this mode will cause the app to display the MyDeck cards in random order, rather than the default order. Shuffling the deck will help you to more firmly master the material.

GENKI Conjugation Cards users say on Google Play
This is my favourite of the three Genki apps. The original is usefiul earlier on, but this is a great app when you have the basic grammar and vocabulary down. This app only takes hiragana answers (required installing a japanese keyboard on my phone), which is unlike previous Genki apps (where you could use romaji). Once I got over this hiccup the app is, in my opinion, better than writing using a regular keyboard. It helps you to write sentences in actual Japanese and gets you accustomed to how a Japanese person would write messages on his/her phone. Although the app is primarily advertised as a way to learn conjugation, I prefer the app for learning the example sentences on the back of each flash card. The in app testing only checks to see if you know how to conjugate a word. Sometimes I find the conjugation easy but translating the example sentence hard, so I find myself lying to the app, pretending I don't know the conjugation so that I can review the sentence later. I wish there was a way to "star" specific cards for being difficult (either for difficulty in conjugation or for translating the sentence).
It's a good review and practice tool of basics forms, there are some issues and suggestions for the app 1 keyboard covers the correct/incorrect line and pressing enter doesnt drop the keyboard or go to next slide 2 on the deck sometimes only the English appears 3 writing in romaji doest work 4 there should be more decks to review with
It's not worth $5.99.It's a very basic app, helpful but too basic for the price. It's great practice having to input the conjugations but you can't pick vocab used, you can't jumble verbs and adjectives, can't look up meanings of words while practicing, for the price it should at least give me quick option to look it up. Also if you get it wrong there is no help with correction or showing what would be the correct answer, it just repeatedly says wrong.
just says that all my answers are wrong before ive answered it, and when i know its right, it doesnt change to correct.
I cannot use the app at all. When I opened up the app, there is a notice with some words stating that the app isn't Google authenticated. In other words, the app is useless. Unbelievable!
