This is as good as it gets. This is the most mature, best written Samurai of Hyuga book/game so far, and the series was already the best example of choice gamebook narratives out there, so that's saying a lot. The central relationship is one of the best I've ever seen, anywhere. It does go to very dark places, but not without purpose or resolution. That twist at the end.. I want that storyline renewed next book. Just incredibly well realized. Update: We can save now. ^^ All set for Book 5!
I was a little sceptical before playing this since I had seen a lot of reviews crying murder and getting upset about it but after reading it myself I kind of understand where they're coming from but also can't help but feel that the negative critique was an overstretch, if you have stuck with the game for so many years then playing this shouldn't suddenly shock you since all it did was confirm most of our suspicion and theories it might not be everyone's cup of tea but certainly not a bad story.
Great book as always, just wish for more player agency in choosing what the MC feels at least in their inner monologue, personally I felt very separated from my MC in this book, if this's what the author intended then he did a good job.
I feel this one tried to go down a more interesting route, but failed to execute it. my issue is the entire relationship revolving around Junko avoiding any spoilers they essentially make her out to be a flawed crazy person. Though the problem is she on multiple occasions tries to rape you. Yet your character for reasons i can only describe as plot is forced to stay with her. All the while treating her merely like a bad person instead of a psychopath, with no option to treat her as such.
I loved this series so much. I was SO HYPE when 4 came out. I have tried reading through this, but between the uncute stockholm and forced relationship, i am annoyed. The dark theme was enticing, execution fell flat *SPOLIER*There is no choice to leave or kill, MC just accepts being a hostage, then feels guilty for not fixing the abuser. I know this is fiction, but come ON! Its glorifying abuse and excusing unacceptable acts & i couldnt stomach it. The ending didnt redeem much.
