TrailLink: Bike, Run, Walk v2.6.1
Rails-to-Trails ConservancyAbout this app
The TrailLink app effectively solves the problem of finding and navigating outdoor trails for biking, running, and walking, benefiting outdoor enthusiasts and fitness enthusiasts alike. With its high user rating and moderate download numbers, it stands out in the Health And Fitness category for its comprehensive trail guide and GPS trail maps. Compared to alternatives, TrailLink's strength lies in its detailed trail information and user-generated reviews. However, its lack of permissions raises questions about its ability to provide a fully integrated experience.
Pros
- With over 500,000 downloads and a 4.1-star rating, TrailLink has demonstrated its value to the outdoor community through social proof and high-quality user feedback.
- The app's comprehensive trail database and GPS trail maps make it an indispensable tool for planning and navigating outdoor activities, setting it apart from more general fitness apps.
- The developer, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, is a reputable organization with a clear mission to promote outdoor activities, which lends credibility to the app's purpose and content.
- The absence of ads and minimal in-app purchases ($1.99 - $29.99 per item) suggests a user-centric approach to monetization, enhancing the overall user experience.
- The app's requirement for no permissions is a significant advantage, indicating a strong commitment to user privacy and data security.
Cons
- The lack of permissions might limit the app's ability to provide a seamless, integrated experience, such as automatically tracking workouts or syncing data with wearables.
- Some users might find the in-app purchase model, although not aggressive, to be a drawback if they prefer a one-time payment or ad-supported model for access to all features.
- The app's effectiveness could be hindered by the reliance on user-generated content for trail reviews and updates, which may not always be accurate or up-to-date.
- There might be limitations in terms of device compatibility, given the Android requirement of 6.0, which could exclude users with older devices.
Best for: The ideal user for TrailLink is an outdoor enthusiast, likely between the ages of 25 and 50, with a moderate to high level of technical skill, who regularly engages in biking, running, or walking and is looking for a reliable guide to discover and navigate new trails, valuing detailed trail information and community feedback to enhance their outdoor experiences.

TrailLink: Bike, Run, Walk users say on Google Play
This is a great reference to have when you're biking and to keep track of which trails you have gone on. It's wonderful when combined with your account online where you can search the web for trails, then save them in your list and access them from your phone. You can also download trails for offline. use. Five stars!
Revised write up as I become more accustomed to the apps quirks....I am finding more and more value. Whats interesting is when you select my location (GPS) and then click search I get nothing back, yet if I give it the city I am located in and select search I get the result I would have expected..there are these strange idioscracies you have to stumble through its not what I term crayon simple or intuitive as you would think. version 2.5.7
clunky UI, frequent upsells. just use Google maps
App needs a lot of improvement and bug fixing when it comes to using the map. UI is clunky and difficult to navigate. Trails don't load or display correctly when using filters. They need to put the actual trail path on the map instead of just green dots everywhere. Desktop website is only semi-functional with the same issues. It's really a shame to pour all this money into the trail systems while having such a poor app experience. The app is named TrailLink, yet there's no way to link trails...
This app says there are 0 bike trails in Laughlin. Nevada, and I don't believe it.
