This is a go to app for long distance hiking. Once you've worked out how to navigate around the app and what information is being shown it becomes intuitive. I found it more intuitive when actually on trail. The stand out feature above other navigation apps is the comments that can be made. This provides relatively up-to-date information for hikers on things like water, accommodation, resupply, etc.
Very helpful! However I wish the map had better resolution when I zoom in. Too bad they delete your comment just for giving tips about camping in the forest near town.
The worse purchase in my 62 year life. The UI is horrible. This whole app sucks. I want my money back. Update: Leaving original rant, eating my crow. Indispensable. Needs better navigation between maps in a major way but get by that, you're golden. Never stop improving FarOut.
Appears to be no way to either mark or even temporarily measure a route that isn't on trail. Frequently there are reroutes that it would be helpful to add as a planned route in advance. Or if I want to measure distance off trail to a resupply point, it's best guess how far it will be. Avenza and Gaia both have this feature.
So-o-o glad I only spent $2.99 for a map to learn this app doesn't work. In v14.9.2, if I add a waypoint doing a long press (as a popup directs), there's no way to edit it - can't add name, coordinates, icon, etc. Forget the online tutorials. The UI and steps in the video don't match what I'm seeing on my phone, as though I'm working with a different app. Back to my custom maps in CalTopo!
