About this app

Backgammon Pro solves the problem of providing an engaging and challenging board game experience for users, with its well-designed interface and addictive gameplay. This app benefits casual and experienced players alike, offering a unique blend of strategy and luck. Compared to other Game Board category alternatives, Backgammon Pro stands out with its high user rating and moderate download numbers, indicating a well-received and popular game. However, its relatively simple feature set and lack of online multiplayer capabilities might fall short for some users.

Pros

  • With a very good user rating of 4.3/5 and over 100,000 downloads, Backgammon Pro demonstrates a high level of social proof and user satisfaction, indicating a well-designed and enjoyable game.
  • The app's paid model and lack of ads or in-app purchases provide a distraction-free experience, allowing users to focus on the game without interruptions or aggressive monetization tactics.
  • The developer, AI Factory Limited, has a reputation for creating high-quality games, and Backgammon Pro is no exception, with a well-designed interface and smooth performance.
  • The app's offline capability and lack of permissions requests make it a great option for users who value their privacy and want to play without internet connectivity.
  • The game's challenging and addictive nature makes it an excellent choice for users looking to improve their strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

Cons

  • One concern is the app's relatively simple feature set, which might not be enough to keep experienced players engaged for an extended period, potentially leading to boredom or a desire for more complex gameplay.
  • The lack of online multiplayer capabilities is a notable omission, as it would add a significant layer of replayability and social interaction to the game, potentially increasing its appeal to a wider audience.
  • Some users might find the game's graphics and sound effects to be somewhat basic, which could detract from the overall experience, especially compared to more visually stunning alternatives in the Game Board category.
  • The app's update frequency is not explicitly stated, which might raise concerns about the developer's commitment to maintaining and improving the game over time.

Best for: The ideal user for Backgammon Pro is an individual who enjoys strategic board games, values a distraction-free experience, and is looking for a challenging and addictive game to play in their free time, with a moderate level of technical skill and a willingness to learn and improve their gameplay skills.

AI Factory's Backgammon is the best free Backgammon game on Android!

Backgammon is a game of skill and strategy; one of the world's classic parlour board games, played for recreation and gambling. Like Mahjong, Backgammon is played in social groups in coffee houses and bars. Historically, variants of this game are believed to have been played in Mesopotamia and Egypt thousands of years ago, then by the Romans and later in India. It also spread to East Asia, but was largely replaced by Xiangqi (Chinese chess). It is now very popular in the West.

I've played this game for a number of years and complained about the computer's doubling strategy and overall skill level. Since the most recent updates, it plays much better with more sensible doubling and playing skill. I'm still winning regularly (3:2) at level 8 and 11 point matches but it's better. It still does some questionable moves and seems all too ready to hit my pieces when that would leave it way too open to being hit but, as I said, way better game experience!.

Overall the game is very good, but there are some quirks. If you allow the automated bearing off the choice of pieces is somewhat odd. For instance with a 2/6 throw the game moves a piece 2, then 6, when a move of just 6 would clear the piece meaning the 2 move is lost even when there's another piece that could use it. And it's annoying that the computer won't resign even when it's mathematically impossible for it to win.

I've liked this game until recently. I've played for real for over 50 years and never have I seen the multiple doubles hit in the way this game does to skew results either for or against the cpu. It's also become buggy as it stops responding at least 4-5 times a game. Fix the bugs and if the dice is truly meant to be random, then something is buggy with your algorithms. Also, calling your users deluded and sad for observing the same thing is no way to treat people who are funding your endeavors.

Fact the higher the level the more often the CPU goes 1st. On the higher levels the CPU almost always rolls doubles after the player rolls doubles. It seems to be part of the CPU's strategy of always rolling doubles after the player gains the advantage. I have tracked this behavior on paper & the stats show this really is happening. It's strategy is the dice & it shows. Stop lying.
