Overboard! v1.4.3
inkle LtdAbout this app
Overboard! is a unique detective game that solves the problem of monotony in the adventure game genre by offering a highly replayable experience, making it ideal for fans of mystery and puzzle games. It benefits most those who enjoy strategic thinking and storytelling, setting it apart from other games in the category with its dynamic narrative and lack of ads or in-app purchases. Compared to alternatives, Overboard!'s strength lies in its engaging storyline and the challenge of getting away with murder, which might fall short for players seeking action-packed gameplay. The app's ability to stand out comes from its developer's reputation for creating immersive experiences, as seen in their previous title, 80 Days.
Pros
- With a high user rating of 4.1 out of 5, Overboard! demonstrates a well-received game that has met the expectations of its players, indicating a quality gaming experience.
- The absence of ads and in-app purchases enhances the user experience, allowing players to focus on the game without interruptions, which is a significant advantage over many free-to-play models.
- The game's replayability factor is a significant pro, as it offers a new experience each time the game is played, keeping the content fresh and engaging for players who enjoy solving mysteries.
- The developer, inkle Ltd, has a reputation for creating engaging narrative-driven games, which adds to the credibility and quality of Overboard!, reassuring potential players about the game's depth and polish.
- The game's offline capability, combined with its lack of permissions requests, makes it a secure and convenient option for players who value their privacy and wish to play on the go without needing an internet connection.
Cons
- One concern is the relatively small number of downloads, which might indicate a limited community or less feedback for the developers to improve the game, potentially affecting its long-term support and updates.
- The game's high price point of $6.49 might deter some potential players, especially those who are not familiar with the developer's previous work or are hesitant to spend money on a game without trying it first.
- The lack of information about future updates or additional content might worry some players who are looking for a game with ongoing support and new challenges to keep them engaged over time.
- For players seeking a more fast-paced or action-oriented experience, Overboard!'s focus on storytelling and detective work might not be the best fit, potentially leading to disappointment for those with different gaming preferences.
Best for: The ideal user for Overboard! is an individual who enjoys puzzle games, mystery novels, or strategic thinking, likely falling within the age range of 16 to 45, with a medium to high level of technical skill, and who is looking for a challenging, story-driven experience that offers replay value and does not require constant internet connectivity.

I've had a blast with this game and hooked a few of my friends on it as well. This is a great way to kill time... and possibly other passengers. Gameplay for each round depends on your choices: ranging from 5 minutes to half an jour. Each run timing is key, as our snarky protag tries to get away with murder and get rich, a real two birds one stone situation. Replay potential is rather high, as your choices and the order with which you take them can have quite drastic changes to the outcome.
Just like other inkle games, it's a fun puzzle to pick apart and replay, and the writing is great. A reverse murder-mystery is a brilliant concept. But I was disappointed with the short length of the game - I seem to have seen exhausted pretty much every option and completed all the tasks within a few hours, compared to 80 Days which held lots of surprises even after weeks of play.
Entertaining but compared to 80 days it's a lot shallower, you can get the best ending after 2-3 hours and there's far less replayability. There's no voice acting or animation so it feels a little incomplete. Maybe wait for a further discount but it's a nice game.
Reading text is a bore! Popup red text messages dissappear to fast.
First of this game looks amazing and the concept is cool. Now I would love to play but every time I load the game it crashes and when it does load the game seems to freeze and then stutter and finaly crash. I really want to play so I can give this game a fair review but at the moment I can't play because of the contnstent crashes that my phone has to indure. Mind you no other game has ever crashed like this before.
