Nonograms, also known as pic-a-pix, paint by numbers puzzles, picross or griddlers, started appearing in Japanese puzzle magazines. Non Ishida published three picture grid puzzles in 1988 in Japan under the name of "Window Art Puzzles". Subsequently in 1990, James Dalgety in the UK invented the name Nonograms after Non Ishida, and The Sunday Telegraph started publishing them on a weekly basis.

In this puzzle type, the numbers measure how many unbroken lines of filled-in squares there are in any given row or column. To solve a puzzle, one needs to determine which cells will be boxes and which will be empty. Later in the solving process, the spaces help determine where a clue may spread. Solvers use a dot to mark cells they are certain are spaces.

played this on the Amazon app store, since they'll no longer be supporting android, I switched to Google play. this game is always first to be installed on ALL devices. some people complain, but maybe they don't get how it works. even after all these years, it's STILL being updated with tweaks AND new puzzles! try the free version to get a feel for it, you can even change the way you interact with the puzzles. it's worth every penny, if this is your kind of game!

One major drawback is that large puzzles require too much scrolling when region at the boundary is solved. Please add an option to bring number ruller over the puzzle. E.g. allowing to drag numbers at the bottom.

I love picross/nonograms, and this app is great. I've done over 1,000 of them, and consider myself to be quite proficient. However, the further I get, the more puzzles there are that are not solvable without guessing, which if wrong, messes up everything else. These puzzles are either poorly designed or were not caught in the review process. It's very frustrating not being able to solve them.

Its a good game. I would have given this game 5 stars, but dear God my guys. if I pay for the rest of the game then I should HAVE THE REST OF THE GAME. The hints should be included in that cost. To do otherwise is beyond greedy. No excuses can be made here. Infinite hints should not cost $50. I keep looking at the price to see if I'm having some sort of stroke, but no, its still $50....for something that should be included in the game that I bought.

When I originally installed this game there were no in-app purchases. There were no indication that there would be. I have played for a while and recommended it to many people. A recent update deleted all my saved hints and now I have to pay for them. I don't mind the author earning something for their work, but this was back-ally, and slimy. Uninstalling both of their monogram puzzles.
