Simple HTTP Server v2.5.0
Fedir TsapanaAbout this app
The Simple HTTP Server app solves the problem of hosting static content locally by providing a lightweight and easy-to-use HTTP server, benefiting developers, testers, and individuals who need to share files over a network. Compared to other tools in the category, it stands out with its simplicity and lack of permissions, making it a secure choice. However, its feature set is basic, which might limit its appeal to more advanced users. Overall, it is a solid option for those seeking a straightforward HTTP server solution.
Pros
- With over 100,000 downloads and a 4.0/5 user rating, the Simple HTTP Server app has demonstrated its reliability and user satisfaction, indicating a well-designed and functional application.
- The app's lack of permissions is a significant advantage, as it ensures user data privacy and security, aligning with the principles of minimal privilege.
- The developer's decision to release the app for free without ads or in-app purchases enhances the user experience, making it more likely that users will appreciate the app's functionality without interruptions.
- The app's small size and offline capability make it accessible on a wide range of devices, including those with limited storage or internet connectivity.
- The developer's active website and email contact suggest a commitment to maintaining and updating the app, which is crucial for long-term usability and security.
Cons
- One concern is the app's limited feature set, which might not meet the needs of advanced users who require more complex server configurations or dynamic content hosting.
- Although the app has a good user rating, the total number of ratings is relatively low, which might not fully represent the user experience across all devices and use cases.
- The app's requirement for Android 5.0 or higher might exclude users with older devices, limiting its accessibility to a broader audience.
- There is a risk that the simplicity of the app could lead to misuse or unintended access if not properly configured, emphasizing the need for caution when setting up the server.
Best for: The ideal user for the Simple HTTP Server app is a technically inclined individual, likely a developer, tester, or IT professional, who needs a quick, secure, and easy way to host static content over a network, and values simplicity and privacy in their tools.
Developer Description
Small and convenient static-content HTTP server
Privacy
Given that the Simple HTTP Server app requests no permissions, the risk of data collection or privacy breaches is significantly minimized. However, users should still be cautious when hosting sensitive content and ensure that the server is properly configured to avoid unauthorized access. It's also advisable to keep the app and the Android device updated to protect against potential vulnerabilities.
Tips
For first-time users, setting up the server is straightforward, but it's essential to understand the basics of HTTP servers and network configurations to use the app effectively. To optimize performance, ensure that the device has a stable internet connection and sufficient storage. Additionally, consider integrating the app with other development or file management tools to enhance its utility.

Awesome....Thx!
Mostly works as intended. Unfortunately, it doesn't transmit the right MIME type for *.mjs files. *.mjs files are module-based JavaScript files, which should have a MIME type of "text/javascript". However, they currently are transmitted as "application/octet-stream". Since MIME sniffing is explicitly disabled for module-based Javascript, it makes them unusable and breaks some webpages. See the Mozilla Web Docs.
It work I mean it does it purpose but please it whould deserve a 5 star if all bugs are fixed, when I use a folder then a file in that folder it tend to use only just that file I choose after some persistent use, even if I delete the cookies ansmd cache of the app even the data it still tends to do the same thing unless I delete and install the app back from play store that is why I gave it a 3 star if those are fixed probably deserve a 5 star
Keeps getting worse with each update. Homepage stops working constantly. Have to keep restarting the server to fix it. This app used to work flawlessly, but the last few updates have been terrible.
supposedly minimal, but full of bizarre overhead and bloat in the client side. why must every request be wrapped by 69 layers of loading modules and html pages implemented with ungodly complexity, with inexplicable choices like replacing the context menu with an html element instead? god only knows. but it definitely shows in the teen-seconds it takes to open each url.
