Universalis v2.209
Universalis PublishingAbout this app
The Universalis app solves the problem of accessing daily Liturgy of the Hours and Mass readings without an internet connection, making it an essential tool for Catholic clergy and laity alike. It benefits those who value a comprehensive and offline spiritual resource, setting it apart from other Books and Reference apps that often require internet connectivity. Compared to alternatives, Universalis stands out for its completeness and ease of use, although its paid model and limited free content may deter some users. The app's excellent user rating and lack of permissions suggest a well-designed and respectful approach to user data.
Pros
- With over 50,000 downloads and an excellent 5.0-star rating, Universalis demonstrates high social proof and user satisfaction, indicating a well-regarded and reliable app.
- The app's offline capability allows users to access daily readings and prayers anywhere, making it a valuable resource for those with limited internet access or preferring a more traditional, disconnected spiritual practice.
- Universalis's developer, Universalis Publishing, maintains a professional website and provides a clear contact email, suggesting a commitment to user support and transparency.
- The absence of ads and limited in-app purchases ensures a distraction-free user experience, aligning with the spiritual nature of the app.
- Regular updates, as indicated by the version number, suggest that the developer is actively maintaining and improving the app.
Cons
- The paid model, priced at $12.99, may be a barrier for some potential users, especially considering the availability of free spiritual resources online.
- Although the app has an excellent rating, the total number of ratings is relatively low, which might not fully represent the user base's diverse experiences and opinions.
- Some users might find the lack of a free version or trial period limiting, as it doesn't allow them to test the app's suitability for their needs before purchasing.
- The app's requirement for Android 5.0 or higher might exclude users with older devices, potentially limiting its accessibility for those who cannot or prefer not to update their operating system.
Best for: The ideal user for the Universalis app is a devout Catholic, likely between the ages of 25 and 60, who values tradition and spirituality, has a moderate level of technical skill, and is seeking a comprehensive, offline resource for daily prayers and Mass readings to deepen their faith and spiritual practice.

Universalis users say on Google Play
This is a 'must have' App for catholics; it is simple to use and the settings wheel is prominent and the Menu easy to understand. I particularly like that yiu can have any selected language running alongside standard English - very handy for going abroad.
For me, it's mostly a Rosary app. Easy to use.
1. Can you please give us the option to change our calendar's first day of the week to Sunday, not Monday? We are Christians; our First Day of the Week is Sunday, as the Bible and Catechism teach. 2. I wish you could add english & spanish, english & german, english & french, etc in the Liturgy of the Hours. the english & latin side-by-side display is awesome.
