Erinnerungsort BADEHAUS vVARY

This app accompanies you when you visit the BADEHAUS memorial site. The volunteer-run museum is a place of remembrance, encounter and learning. History can be experienced here in fast motion. With this app you can listen to audio guides through the permanent exhibition for adults and young people or explore the history of today's Waldram in three different tours.
A small town has written great history in a short time: from 1940 as a Nazi settlement for German ARMAMENTS WORKERS, from 1945 as a rescue site for survivors of the DEATH MARSH and as a refuge for Jewish DISPLACED PERSONS and from 1956 as a new home for Catholic DISPLACED PEOPLE. In Waldram, formerly Föhrenwald, history can be experienced in fast motion. Traces of this unique history of migration can still be found here today. In its multimedia permanent exhibition, which opened at the end of 2018, the BADEHAUS site of remembrance tells of this local history with international appeal on more than 900 square meters and 3 floors.
Under the TREES OF MEMORY, contemporary witnesses from all walks of life tell of their fates before, during and after their time in Föhrenwald and Waldram.
A film about the Jewish ritual bath, the MIKWE, locates religious life where it took place: in the BADEHAUS, the synagogue or in everyday life.
The audio play FÖHRENWALD by Michaela Melián, which has won several awards, in combination with drawings by students, tells the story of the place as a multimedia installation. Her drawings, floating in the dark room, blend into each other with music, texts and quotes and imagine a walk through the place.
In the outdoor area, the photo documentation KINDERWELTEN tells of the life of the children of the Jewish Displaced Persons and the Catholic home expellees in comparison. This part of the exhibition is open to the public.
