Understood for All, Inc.About this app
The Understood: Support ADHD Kids app addresses the specific needs of parents and caregivers of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) by providing a behavior tracking tool developed by psychologists. This app benefits most those seeking a structured approach to understanding and managing their child's behavior, offering a valuable resource in the Parenting category. Compared to alternatives, it stands out due to its psychological backing and focus on ADHD, though it may fall short in terms of broader parenting guidance. Its high user rating and lack of ads or in-app purchases make it a compelling choice.
Pros
- The app's development by psychologists ensures that the behavior tracking features are informed by expert knowledge, making it a reliable tool for parents.
- With over 50,000 downloads and a 4.4/5 user rating, the app has demonstrated its usefulness and effectiveness for many users, providing social proof of its quality.
- The absence of ads and in-app purchases means that users can utilize the app without interruptions or additional costs, enhancing the overall user experience.
- The app's requirement for Android 10 and its small size indicate that it is optimized for performance and can run efficiently on a variety of devices, including those with limited storage capacity.
- The developer's reputation, as indicated by their website and email support, suggests a commitment to user support and ongoing development.
Cons
- The app's limited focus on ADHD might not make it as versatile as other parenting apps that cover a broader range of topics and child development issues.
- Despite its psychological basis, some users might find the app's features or tracking system to be too simplistic or not comprehensive enough for their needs.
- The lack of permissions requested by the app could be seen as a positive, but it also raises questions about how effectively the app can integrate with other tools or services that parents might be using.
- Some users may experience limitations in the app's offline capability or accessibility features, which could hinder its usability in all situations.
Best for: The ideal user for the Understood: Support ADHD Kids app is a parent or caregiver of a child with ADHD, likely with a medium to high level of technical skill, who is seeking a structured and psychologically sound tool to track and manage their child's behavior, and is willing to commit to regular use of the app to see meaningful benefits.
Developer Description
Behavior Tracker developed by psychologists for parents of kids with ADHD
Having big emotions is part of growing up for any child. But for kids with ADHD or dyslexia, they may be more frequent and intense. This can be overwhelming for both the parent and the child.
The Behavior Tracker was developed by psychologists to help parents understand and effectively respond to their child’s big emotions. It’s based on proven approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Log your child’s challenging behaviors to get personalized insights, learn new strategies, and track your child’s progress — all at your own pace and on your own schedule.
Understood.org is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people with learning and thinking differences, like ADHD and dyslexia, with lifelong support and resources. That means everything we offer — including this app — is made possible through the generosity of people like you who believe in our mission.
📌 Key Features
• Developed by psychologists: Our Behavior Tracker and lessons were developed by psychologists and are grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). They were designed for parents of kids with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning and thinking differences.
• Behavior Tracker: In just a few clicks, log your child’s challenging behaviors using the Behavior Tracker. You’ll see patterns emerge that’ll give you clues about the root causes and how they may relate to your child’s ADHD or learning difference.
• Tailored insights: The more you log in the Behavior Tracker, the more personalized insights you’ll get. Insights help you identify common situations and share tips to address them — so you can see improvement in your child’s behavior over time.
• Skillbuilding lessons: Learn techniques and practice new skills developed by psychologists. Figure out what your child with ADHD is trying to tell you. Then decide on the best way to respond.
• Gain new perspectives: Feel closer to your child and gain new perspectives on why they act out. It may have a lot to do with their learning or thinking difference, like ADHD or dyslexia.
• Increase confidence: Parenting is chaotic enough. Gain confidence supporting your child with ADHD when they have big emotions or outbursts. Use new skills and strategies, made just for you.
• De-escalation techniques: Emotional regulation skills can help you tame outbursts and meltdowns as they happen. With practice, your responses can prevent some of them from happening in the future.
• Practice new skills: Put your new skills into practice. And continue to log behaviors to see how new strategies are helping improve your child’s behavior, or to get a refresher on skills you’ve learned.

My 12 year old is in the process of getting screened for some mental health issues and behaviors that are quickly becoming a problem. This app has helped with tracking his ups and downs so well that all I have to do is share the info on my app with his doctor and psychologist. This app is amazing it's a light in the dark for me as a single recovering addict just trying to help her son before he ends up in the same crowd that I was in. Thank you for making it simple
I gave 4 stars because it's an amazing app I love it so far but it needs a feature to add more than 1 child/Ren for those with multiple nurodivergent kiddos so we can track everyone's behavior at once!!! ☺️
I'm just downloading this app now.... Looking for help with my adhd odd 6 year old...every day the school sends her home swearing she hasn't taken her meds and not even doing anything to help except sending her home... I don't know what to do anymore...
this app has potential. I like the reminders and how easy it is to log a behavior and the length of time. however it is too limited. The behavior triggers and meltdowns can be complex. I wish I had the option to tap multiple things on all categories. I would also like to be able to customize more. Sometimes the location is unique or the antecedent is multiple things. I need more options so I can get a better view of tends. I'd love to see this app get developed more and be more comprehensive
This app used to have experts along with lessons and resources and was amazing. Now, it's basically a behavior tracker using the ABC method. I find the options for Antecedent Behavior and Consequence too general and limited to be very helpful. The 4 courses to prevent meltdowns were helpful, but I'm ready for more. The understood website has a lot more resources, and apparently, you can join their Facebook page for expert advice. Great organization, but the app isn't worth the space for me.
