About this app

Tides of Time solves the problem of finding a engaging and strategic card drafting game for two players, benefiting those who enjoy competitive gameplay with friends or solo against AI. Compared to alternatives in the Game Card category, Tides of Time stands out with its simple yet engaging gameplay and pass-and-play feature, but falls short in terms of online multiplayer capabilities. The app's good user rating and lack of permissions requested suggest a well-designed and respectful user experience.

Pros

  • The app's good user rating of 3.9/5 and over 10,000 downloads indicate a high level of social proof and user satisfaction with the game's quality and functionality.
  • The paid monetization model without ads or in-app purchases provides a clean and uninterrupted user experience, allowing players to focus on the game without distractions.
  • The app's offline capability and lack of permissions requested make it a great option for those who value their privacy and want to play without internet connectivity.
  • The developer's reputation and website suggest a professional and dedicated team behind the app, which could lead to regular updates and improvements.

Cons

  • The limited data on downloads and user ratings may not provide a comprehensive picture of the app's performance and user satisfaction.
  • The lack of online multiplayer capabilities may be a drawback for some users who prefer to play with others remotely.
  • The app's relatively high price point of $5.99 may be a barrier for some users who are used to free or lower-priced card games.

Best for: The ideal user for Tides of Time is a strategic and competitive individual, likely between the ages of 18 and 45, who enjoys card games and is looking for a fun and challenging experience to play with friends or solo, with a moderate level of technical skill and a willingness to learn and adapt to new game mechanics.

Developer Description

A card drafting game for two! Play the AI, or pass-and-play with a friend!

Tides of Time is a card drafting game for two players that takes place over three rounds. On your turn, choose one card from those in your hand, then pass your hand to your opponent. Each card is one of five suits and a scoring objective. Once all cards have been taken, players calculate their scores based on the cards drafted. Between rounds, you will choose one card to keep for future rounds, and one card to remove from the game. After three rounds the player with the most points wins!

This is a long-awaited digital adaptation of the card game from Kristian Čurla and Portal Games. With this version, you can challenge your friends with pass-and-play or compete against one of the three levels of AI. Unique challenges are also included to keep you on your toes!

Reviews for Tides of Time:

“A great looking two player game that is quick to play and not too heavy on the brain, but with definite scope for strategy.” – Nick Pitman

“This game is not complex at all, but it can be a challenge to master. Easily picked up as a filler with non-gamer friends and gamers alike. Highly recommended!” – Tabletop Together

“Tides of Time from Kristian Čurla is a marvel in minimalist design, creating tons of tension from only eighteen cards in a game that lasts no more than twenty minutes.” – Eric Martin, Board Game Geek

“The more I play, the more I enjoy it.” – Zee Garcia, The Dice Tower

“Very thinky and quiet, but also very interesting. Staying in my collection for sure.” – Joel Eddy, Drive Thru Review

Great concept from card game to mobile devices. The only thing that was off, during the time i was reading the Rules found an error on Copper which was spelled wrongly as Chopper. Which would be age of copper to be exact. I did got confused until i played the game realizing it was a keyword error.

The game is fun, but I feel it really misses online multiplayer to stay engaging.

I think this is a neat design and am a fan of the physical game. Playing against AI is frustrating as public information gets cleared before you can review results of a round. The option to see the cards you passed would be nice, although that's not in physical rules. Against AI with perfect memory it seems more fair and would help build skill easier by helping to learn what details to prioritize, unless you can memorize and compare all the details with no assistance. I can't. No online play.

Not that much to it. The cards are beautifully illustrated and the animation is very well done. But there's only 18 cards in the whole game and they get reused from age to age which kind of kills the image of an evolving civilization. It has a promising concept but it's just too little game for the asking price. If there were more cards and more game I would keep.

"Harder A.I." translates to: The game cheats in more blatant ways. Bad game to begin with, cheating aside. Not worth 5 bucks for something so horribly outdated in concept, look, and execution. Maybe you could get away with 1 dollar.
