HRV4Training v3.8.7
A.S.M.A. B.V.About this app
Developer Description
HRV4Training helps you optimize goals and improve performance. No sensors needed
On compatibility with your phone: the app will detect right away if your phone is supported so that you can always get a refund in case it is not.
HRV4Training in addition to our camera based measurements, supports the Oura ring, Coros watches and Bluetooth sensors (e.g. a Polar chest strap, our recommendation)
HRV4Training is also the first app that goes beyond simple measurements and provides insights on:
1) acute or day to day HRV changes in response to different stressors (alcohol, travel, sick days, training, menstruation, etc.)
2) long term multi-parameter trends to look at the big picture
3) correlations between physiological measurements and annotations
4) training load analysis, fitness, fatigue, readiness to perform and injury risk
5) VO2max estimation for runners linking the app to Strava or TrainingPeaks
6) Training Polarization analysis
7) Weekly and monthly summaries to track progress.
All data is processed inside the app in order to provide you with actionable interpretations that can help optimizing your training plan and performance.
Other features:
- HRV-based advice helps you to adapt your trainings based on objective measures of recovery
- TAGS: lets you tag your sleep, mental energy, muscle fatigue, stress and all other parameters that can help you understand what is influencing your physical condition and physiological stress
- Works with Bluetooth SMART heart rate monitors (a Polar H7 is recommended)
- Configurable test (choose test duration between 1, 3 or 5 minutes)
- Shows the PPG signal view to ensure signal quality during the test if the camera is used instead of a sensor
- Extracts and stores the following features while lying down and/or standing: heart rate, mean of beat-to-beat intervals (AVNN), standard deviation of beat-to-beat intervals (SDNN), square root of the mean squared difference of successive R-Rs (rMSSD), number of pairs of successive R-Rs that differ by more than 50 ms (pNN50), low frequency power (LF, 0.04-0.15 Hz), high frequency power (HF, 0.15-0.40 Hz)
- Population summaries and people like you comparisons to put your data into perspective
- Data export via email
- RR-intervals correction
- Integrates with TrainingPeaks, Strava and others

Love this app. I have ME/CFS. Been using it for well over a year to track my health and it has helped in so many ways with pacing and trying out new recovery options. It has helped me to see what's working and when I'm overdoing it. The data is brilliant and so is the option to enter your own data tags for the day - I rate my PEM and activity levels daily. I have compared the camera readings to hrv readings from my Garmin watch and my Polar H10 chest strap and they seem very accurate. Great app!
Since the update done on 23 January 2025 the app cannot upload to drop box. Seems the app lost the permission to access files and I cannot grant anymore in the phone such permission. Android 13
I want to love the app, but ridiculously buggy with a Garmin HRM Pro. I've tried everything they suggested, with de-activating Bluetooth, etc. Fitting the strap first thing in the morning is enough of a faff, but sometimes it will (literally) take around 20-30 attempts to get it to connect while telling me to "Stay relaxed". I don't feel hugely confident in the results, either. If I try to use the camera, my flash becomes hotter than the surface of the sun, so that's not an option.
I really wanted to like it, but the app is unusable on a Google Pixel 8 Pro. Not sure it's the distance between camera and flash, but the readings are always poor quality. At the price point for the app, you would wish they have a better tracking of which phones are truly compatible with the measurement.
The app works great but the UI looks outdated and it's not acceptable that every time I write some notes and by mistake I close the window (or I simply want to add something else) I shall start all over because everything is deleted. Update after 4 years: the app looks exactly like it was 4 years ago, so extremely outdated by now. And apparently TrainingPeaks synch is locked behind paywall now. Honestly, ridiculous. Save your money.
