Barometer HD v1.2.6
Guild Software, Inc.About this app
The Barometer HD app effectively solves the problem of providing users with accurate local barometric pressure and altitude readings, making it particularly beneficial for individuals who rely on such data for outdoor activities or work. Compared to other tools in the category, Barometer HD stands out with its simplicity and lack of unnecessary features, which could be seen as both a positive and a negative depending on the user's needs. The app's excellent user rating and moderate download numbers indicate a well-regarded and reliable tool. However, its limited feature set may cause some users to seek alternatives with more comprehensive functionality.
Pros
- The app's high user rating of 4.6 out of 5 indicates a strong level of satisfaction among its users, suggesting that it effectively meets their needs.
- Barometer HD does not contain ads, which enhances the user experience by eliminating distractions and potential privacy concerns.
- The developer's reputation, as inferred from the provided contact information and website, suggests a level of professionalism and accountability.
- The app requires no permissions, which is a significant advantage in terms of privacy and security, as it minimizes potential risks associated with data collection and misuse.
- The app's simplicity and focus on a specific task make it easy to use and understand, even for those with limited technical skills.
Cons
- One of the drawbacks of Barometer HD is its limited feature set, which, while keeping the app simple and easy to use, might not be sufficient for users requiring more detailed or varied data.
- The absence of in-app purchases and the free model are positives, but the app's lack of updates (currently at version 1.2.6) might raise concerns about its long-term support and compatibility with future Android versions.
- The app's requirement for Android 2.2 might limit its compatibility with newer devices, potentially excluding a significant portion of the market.
- The app's offline capability is not explicitly stated, which could be a concern for users who need access to barometric data in areas without internet connectivity.
Best for: The ideal user for Barometer HD is likely an outdoor enthusiast, such as a hiker, pilot, or sailor, who requires accurate and reliable barometric pressure and altitude readings, and values simplicity and ease of use in an app, without needing a plethora of additional features or complex data analysis tools.
Developer Description
Display your local barometric pressure and altitude with your Xoom, Nexus, etc.
Barometer HD shows you the current barometric pressure in different units, including inHg, mmHg, hPa, atm, millibars. It also shows your altitude at STP.
This app only runs on devices with the barometric sensor, such as the Motorola Xoom and Galaxy Nexus.
Planned upcoming features include:
- Barometer Widget for the Android Desktop.
- More calibration options.
- Triggerable sound effects on major pressure changes (storm warning mode).
..and more!
There are currently some issues with phone-sized screens being too small to read all of the pressure values.
Privacy
Given that Barometer HD requires no permissions, the risk of data collection and misuse is significantly minimized. However, users should still be cautious when installing any app, ensuring they download from trusted sources like ApkTrusted.com. It's also advisable to monitor the app's performance and data usage to ensure it aligns with the expected behavior of a simple tool like Barometer HD.
Tips
For the best experience with Barometer HD, users should ensure their device supports the necessary sensors for barometric pressure and altitude readings. Regularly checking for updates, although the app is currently stable, is a good practice. Additionally, understanding the basics of how barometric pressure and altitude are measured and what factors can influence these readings can help users interpret the data provided by the app more effectively.
What's New
- Fixed white-screen problem on Google Galaxy Nexus devices.
- Sensor readings now restart when the app is resumed from Home being pressed.

i can't wait until someone asks if anyone knows the barometric pressure--I do!
It's ok, just missing now the possibility to set a wider scale for instance from 800 to 1100hpa so we can visualize in the graph the variations in a plane flight trip. It would be nice to export data from last 24 hours or so (in CSV format) to use it later on a computer.
No graphics past needle on graph on my gnex, as well.

I have spent a couple of years of my life leading walking and skiing holidays. My comments are related to how I use a real barometer/altimeter Weather - in the absence of a forecast, changes in atmospheric pressure, tracked every hour or two over a day or so, give some useful idea of likely weather changes. In particular, steep drops in pressure over several hours give indicate a very high probability of much worse weather arriving. this app fails tog ive any meanigful record of changes over any useful period; it does not allow for hourly recordings of pressure over a period of (say) 24 or 48 hours (which would be extremely useful).
