Braille Academy: Play & Learn v2.4.0
Dong DigitalAbout this app
Braille Academy: Play & Learn effectively addresses the need for interactive Braille learning and practice, benefiting individuals with visual impairments and those seeking to learn Braille. Compared to alternatives in the Education category, this app stands out with its excellent user rating and top-tier app status, indicating a high level of user satisfaction. However, its limited download numbers and lack of extensive user reviews may raise concerns about its long-term support and updates. Overall, the app's engaging approach to teaching Braille makes it a valuable resource for those interested in learning this vital skill.
Pros
- With an excellent user rating of 4.9/5, Braille Academy demonstrates a high level of user satisfaction, suggesting that the app is effective in teaching and helping users practice Braille.
- The app's developer, Dong Digital, provides a professional website and email for support, indicating a commitment to user feedback and potential updates.
- The absence of ads in the app ensures an uninterrupted learning experience, allowing users to focus on acquiring Braille skills without distractions.
- The app's offline capability, inferred from its lack of internet permission requests, makes it accessible in areas with limited internet connectivity, enhancing its usability for a broader range of users.
Cons
- The app's monetization model, which includes in-app purchases ranging from $0.99 to $4.49 per item, may deter some users who are seeking a comprehensive learning experience without additional costs.
- Despite its excellent rating, the relatively low number of downloads and total ratings may indicate a limited user base, potentially affecting the app's long-term support and development.
- The lack of detailed information about the app's content and the specific Braille skills it covers may make it difficult for potential users to determine if the app meets their learning needs without first downloading it.
Best for: The ideal user for Braille Academy is an individual of any age with a visual impairment or a desire to learn Braille, possessing basic technical skills to navigate the app's interface, and seeking an engaging, interactive learning experience that can be tailored to their needs through in-app purchases.

What’s Braille?
Braille is a system of touch reading and writing for visually impaired people, in which raised dots represent the letters of the alphabet, numbers, punctuation marks, special symbols and so on. It is named after its creator, Louis Braille, a Frenchman who lost his sight in his childhood and later developed a code for the French alphabet. These characters have rectangular blocks called cells which have tiny bumps called raised dots. The number and arrangement of these dots distinguish one character from another.
-----------------------
What’s Braille Academy?
Braille Academy is developed to help those who are curious about and interested in learning the Braille system. The two key teaching concepts are gradual introduction and focused repetition. The learning material is categorized into chapters and then levels to ensure efficient learning and training. If you are not particularly interested in Braille but in training and improving your memory in general, Braille Academy is also a useful tool.
-----------------------
Levels and challenges?
In short, a level focuses on introducing new characters with a small amount of repetition while a challenge trains what you’ve learnt already. In a level, you can click the INFO BUTTON (on the left) to read some TIPS and the hint button (on the right) to see the correct answer. The hints are infinite and always free. In a challenge, you can’t use the hint button anymore and you must make less than 3 mistakes to pass it.
In conclusion, I wish you a lot of success and a lot of fun in learning Braille!

Braille Academy: Play & Learn users say on Google Play
Yeaaa... Just learned the entire braille alphabet for free in less than an hour. This is great! I paid the 5 bucks for the remaining lessons just out of gratitude. The app is super simple but the UI and the way they coded the repitition is dialed in just right. They introduce the letters in groups of 2 that make sense based on the shape; and my pattern recognition kicked in real quick. I aced the challenges first try on at least 3.
so far good app, challenging and motivating
difficult to see due time the accessibility section.
The app teaches you stuff a bit too quickly and I just can't memorize everything...
Ridiculously long update delay between character update, but still accepts input. The app slows you down on purpose and has limited training possibilities. Useless.
