e-audiologia.plAbout this app
The Hearing Test app effectively addresses the need for a convenient and accessible hearing assessment tool, benefiting individuals who suspect they may have hearing loss or those who want to monitor their hearing health regularly. Compared to other medical apps, its pure-tone audiometry and speech intelligibility tests stand out for their simplicity and effectiveness. With over 1 million downloads and a 4.8/5 rating, it demonstrates high user satisfaction. However, its lack of permissions or in-app purchases suggests a straightforward, uncomplicated user experience.
Pros
- The app's high user rating of 4.8/5 indicates a well-designed and effective tool that meets the needs of its users, suggesting a high level of satisfaction with its performance and functionality.
- With over 1 million downloads, the app has significant social proof, implying that it is widely accepted and utilized, which can be reassuring for new users considering its reliability.
- The absence of in-app purchases and ads makes for an uninterrupted user experience, allowing individuals to focus on their hearing tests without distractions or additional costs.
- The developer's professional website and provided contact email add a layer of transparency and support, which is crucial for a medical app where users may have questions or need assistance.
Cons
- One potential concern is the app's reliance on self-administered tests, which may not replace professional medical evaluations, and users should be aware of the limitations of DIY hearing assessments.
- Although the app does not request any permissions, which is a positive aspect in terms of privacy, the lack of detailed information about data collection and storage could raise questions about user data privacy and security.
- There might be limitations in terms of the app's ability to accommodate different types of hearing impairments or to provide comprehensive follow-up advice, which could be a drawback for some users seeking more detailed analysis or support.
Best for: The ideal user for the Hearing Test app is likely an adult or young adult with concerns about their hearing, possibly experiencing symptoms of hearing loss, who is looking for a preliminary, convenient, and non-invasive means to assess their hearing health before potentially seeking professional medical advice.
Developer Description
Perform a pure-tone audiometry and speech intelligibility test on your mobile.
Pure-tone audiometry determines the degree of hearing loss as a function of sound frequency. The test consists of determining the quietest sound you are able to hear, thereby establishing your hearing threshold. The digits-in-noise test evaluates speech intelligibility and consists of recognizing digits presented in background noise.
Features of the Hearing Test app:
* pure-tone audiometry (using predefined calibration coefficients for manufacturer-supplied wired headphones or Bluetooth headphones),
* digits-in-noise test for measuring speech intelligibility,
* a noise meter for measuring background noise during the test,
* device calibration (when no predefined calibration is available or when using headphones other than the manufacturer-supplied ones).
Additional features:
* high-frequency audiometry,
* classification of hearing loss,
* comparison with age-related norms,
* printing of test results,
* adding notes,
* calibration adjustment (calibration coefficients can be adjusted based on your results obtained using a clinical audiometer),
* verification of calibration coefficients.
Pro version features:
* local database (offline access to test results without connecting to the server),
* synchronization (your test results can be stored in the cloud; the data are easy to recover, can be transferred between devices, and accessed on different devices),
* manual stimulus control in pure-tone audiometry (you can turn the stimulus on and off manually during the test).
Privacy
Given that the Hearing Test app does not require any permissions, it presents a low risk in terms of data privacy and security. However, users should still be cautious about the information they share with the app, especially if they decide to contact the developer for support. It's also advisable to use such apps in a quiet, private environment to ensure the accuracy of the tests and the privacy of the user's health information.
Tips
To get the most out of the Hearing Test app, users should ensure they are in a quiet environment before starting the tests to minimize external interference. Additionally, using good quality headphones can enhance the test's accuracy. It's also recommended to follow the app's instructions carefully and consider consulting a healthcare professional for a comprehensive evaluation and advice based on the test results.
What's New
* Improved translations in existing languages.
* Improved terminology regarding headphone type naming.
* Minor bug fixes.

Hearing Test users say on Google Play
I like how easy it is to use the app. I only wish they'd start with the sound being inaudible and that we had to turn it up until it is audible instead of the other way around. If I start with the audible sound and have to tell when I stop perceiving it, I can easily imagine still hearing it because my brain knows what it's supposed to sound like and fills in the blank where I actually don't hear anymore.
Reasonably accurate with good headphones for someone with good hearing. With hearing loss, I press 'can not hear' a few times and then get noise in the other ear before I can hear in the testing ear. At about -40dB for 4kHz other ear gets noisy.
The sounds are scary
Use to be an easy to use app, now is so complicated I had to delete my 5 star rating.
