Stay in touch with friends and family. Enjoy the security and connectivity of global messaging with the Garmin Messenger™ app. Pair with your compatible inReach® satellite communicator for fast, easy direct messaging and interactive SOS that's not limited to cellphone coverage areas (active satellite subscription required). The app supports group messaging as well as photo and voice messaging when paired with a compatible Garmin device (1). Automatic switching between internet, cellular, and satellite networks gives you the best connectivity and efficiency for all your messaging. When you have connectivity, the app will work seamlessly even if your inReach device is turned off. Invite your friends and family to download the app to stay connected and keep the conversation going on and off the trail. With the use of the LiveTrack™ feature, loved ones can follow your location in real time (2) and see data such as distance, time, and elevation.

This worked great! My son went on a week long dirt motorcycle trip in the deep woods of the Washington Cascades with no reception. I am on my third unit because of error messages and battery failure. The replacement units were reconditioned. I have had professional agents helping me and three out of four have been great, I have had one rude agent with personal problems that made me not want to call back for help. I have considered trying to get my money back but even that seems to be difficult in discussions with the agent. I hope my third unit performs.

do not trust the message counter. it always shows the wrong number. Suggestions for this app: 1. update the number of satellite messages while offline. 2. widgets for sending check-ins and messages 3. ability to send check-ins from the first page of the app vs going to the device page.

Functionality is good, but it's truly ridiculous that you can't use the app when offline because you can't login! WTH Garmin?!? We were stuck on a train between Madrid and Seville during the blackout last week, which also took down most of the cell networks. I have a new phone and hadn't logged into the app on it and thus was unable to use the app at all and had to send all messages character by character on the nReach Mini 2, which does not have a keyboard. Seems like a *massive* oversight!
