KidShield v1.1.21
TP-LINK SYSTEMS INC.About this app
KidShield aims to help parents protect their children from excessive screen time and maintain healthy digital habits, but its low user rating of 2.2/5 raises concerns about its effectiveness. Despite being from a reputable developer like TP-LINK SYSTEMS INC., the app's limited downloads and poor reviews suggest it may not be as robust as other parenting apps in the market. The app's lack of permissions is a positive aspect, indicating it does not collect sensitive user data. However, its free model without ads or in-app purchases is commendable, suggesting the developer's focus is on providing a service rather than generating revenue.
Pros
- The app's simplicity and lack of permissions make it a good choice for parents who are cautious about data privacy and want minimal intrusion from the app.
- Being free with no ads or in-app purchases, KidShield offers an uninterrupted experience for parents who want to monitor and control their child's digital activities without additional costs.
- The developer, TP-LINK SYSTEMS INC., is a known brand in the technology sector, which could imply a level of reliability and trustworthiness in their app development.
- The app's focus on promoting healthy digital habits is timely and addresses a growing concern among parents, making it a potentially valuable tool in the right context.
- With no requirement for internet access to function (implied by zero permissions), KidShield can be used in areas with poor connectivity, enhancing its accessibility.
Cons
- The low user rating and limited number of reviews suggest that KidShield may have significant issues with functionality, user interface, or effectiveness, which could deter potential users.
- The app's lack of updates (with the version being 1.1.21 and no information on recent updates) raises concerns about the developer's commitment to maintaining and improving the app.
- Without any permissions, it's unclear how KidShield effectively monitors or controls digital habits, which might limit its functionality and usefulness for parents seeking a comprehensive solution.
- The limited download numbers (5,000+) indicate that the app may not have the community or support that more popular parenting apps offer, which could be a disadvantage for users seeking advice or troubleshooting help.
Best for: The ideal user for KidShield is a tech-savvy parent or guardian of children aged 4-14, who is concerned about the impact of digital media on their child's physical, emotional, and social development, and is looking for a simple, non-intrusive tool to monitor and manage their child's screen time without compromising on privacy or incurring additional costs.

Overall it's a good app when it is working, I've noticed some bugs in the filtering and blocking of apps it randomly stopped working on me a bit ago I am not sure why. But when it is working it's very hard to bypass which is excellent. However I need it to work at all times so there is not a opportunity to just disable it when the blocking stops working.
It seems great on paper but I see nothing on the app that let's me set the YouTube restrictions mentioned in the description, also the VPN and filtering functions do not work consistently and cause buffering. However it works great when the app actually functions.
kids can easily uninstall this app..
