NYTimes: US and Global News v11.56.0
The New York Times CompanyAbout this app
The NYTimes: US and Global News app solves the problem of staying informed about current events by providing users with a comprehensive and trustworthy source of news, benefiting those who value in-depth reporting and timely updates. Compared to alternatives in the News And Magazines category, this app stands out for its high-quality content and well-organized interface. However, it may fall short for users seeking a completely ad-free experience due to its monetization model. Overall, the app's excellent user rating and large user base attest to its value and reliability.
Pros
- With over 10 million downloads and a 4.8/5 user rating, this app has demonstrated its ability to provide high-quality news content that meets the needs of a wide range of users.
- The app's developer, The New York Times Company, is a well-established and reputable news organization, ensuring that the content is trustworthy and well-researched.
- The app's interface is well-organized and easy to navigate, making it simple for users to find the news that interests them and stay up-to-date on current events.
- The app's live alerts feature allows users to stay informed about breaking news as it happens, providing a valuable service for those who need to stay current.
- The app's availability on Android 10 and later ensures that it is compatible with a wide range of devices, making it accessible to a large user base.
Cons
- The app's monetization model, which includes ads and in-app purchases, may be a drawback for some users who prefer an ad-free experience or are concerned about the cost of premium content.
- Some users may find the app's content to be biased towards a particular perspective, which could be a concern for those seeking a more balanced view of current events.
- The app's requirement for Android 10 or later may be a limitation for users with older devices, potentially excluding some users from accessing the app's content.
- The presence of in-app purchases with a wide price range ($0.99 - $299.99) may lead to unexpected costs for some users, especially if they are not aware of the pricing structure.
Best for: The ideal user for the NYTimes: US and Global News app is likely an individual aged 25-55 who values in-depth, high-quality news reporting and is interested in staying informed about current events, both domestically and internationally, with a moderate to high level of technical skill and a willingness to engage with a variety of news topics and formats.

NYTimes: US and Global News users say on Google Play
The digital app version works perfectly. I can save articles, recipes, and reference my list of books I want to read. Great job with the app.
Updated software, a track record of bug fixes and upgrades and well tailored to content delivery, well organized. Still weak on search results within NYT.
Well written news, but this app often crashes while reading causing it to freeze or reloading the main page and forcing you to find your way back to what you were reading. I've written to them with screenshots and apparently they do nothing about it. It's so annoying!
Downgrading review. App search for articles now even more iffy, no matter what keywords you use; even very unique ones. Search results completely dominated by articles which do not include the search terms and have no relevance; for some reason mostly sports articles. Often the article just can't be found at all. Comments being written vanish without a trace during frequent app data updates. Comments editing window now doesn't scroll, so keyboard covers everything after a couple of paragraphs.
I second Nelson Kim's 12/1/25 review! Reading a long article, I'm always interrupted by the app jumping back to the home page. After digging around to get back to that article, I find my place and can only read a little while longer before it happens again. Please fix this bug!
